  1. In NZ practice manager tax agents can send out provisional tax letters to clients from practice manager, has the ATO given the green light in Australia to allow Xero to obtain this information so that tax agents can send out PAYG instalment notices to clients. I know ATO mate and others have found a work around to obtain ATO correspondence etc from the ATO.

  2. When viewing the list of archived jobs the default view is sorted by name. As our annual jobs start with the year this means the oldest jobs show first. I want the newest jobs to show first so click on the Due column which sorts by the oldest date and then click again to reverse the order to show by the newest date.

It would be great if the view automatically sorted by the newest due date as most of the time it is the most recent jobs that you want to look at.

  3. This isn't a workpapers-specific solution, but the ability to see the status of workpapers in the clients section of the PartnerHub could have great development opportunities. It would be very useful to give a quick snapshot of the client and if it was also available as a column in the global client view you could filtering by work completed/ in progress/ not yet received. Furthermore, giving developers access to the API for this field would also open up other opportunities.

  5. When using client groups and clicking the Work in Progress Button, there is nothing showing when there is WIP in the group.

It appears the group name is not pushing through the WIP link to the filter properly.

Hi Ben, while WIP should be appearing for all the clients in the group our product teams have found an issue for some users where this isn't loading correctly.

We have intentions to fix this however a couple of other items that they have attention on first, I'll share when work for this gets picked up. Thanks

  6. If a client fails to pay the first installment of provisional tax why is it then added to the next installment and then P1 shows as nothing due. This is incorrect, the amount due at P1 is still the same (per the IRD), the debt at P1 has not moved to P2. What happens for client's who have RIT over $60k?

  7. Xero sign in document packs - you currently need to manually input the client's details to add their signature for each document pack (for docs with no auto signing feature like tax returns).

It would be great if there was an option to simply select a client from XPM as all the details are already there (First name/Last name/Email)

Hi everyone ✨ Thanks for sharing your feedback on this idea. We appreciate the time taken to do this and we would like to be completely transparent around this Idea. It is not in the immediate future planning however we have moved the Idea to Gaining Support. Your continued votes and comments help us understand the impact and prioritize improvements that matter most to you.

  8. When exporting invoices from XPM to Xero it should by default export the client name, address, email address and contact number.

Currently it only exports the client name and postal address, and contact name, email and phone number (but only if that contact is NOT a client in XPM and only if you select that contact when preparing the invoice - forget the contact and you are back at square one.).

If we have an individual as a client in XPM, and send this client an invoice: currently XPM will only export an email and phone number if we add…

Thanks for the comprehensive and exhaustive idea around how contact and client details could be included when invoices are synched from XPM to Xero blue. As you may know there is a new platform (PartnerHub) which you may be aware of, and will be released fully in the near future. You may find that the issue is covered in the new experience. We will move this to Gaining Support so the community can get behind this add their votes and comments.

  9. Recently we had a client who sold their property, which triggered a CGT event. The property was initially their main residence, however this ceased once the property commenced being rented out. Therefore, a partial main residence exemption applies, however Xero Tax doesn't currently provide a code to acknowledge this scenario, once providing a main residence exemption code (see attachment). For enhanced clarity, it would arguably be useful if such a code was provided, so the gross capital gain can be apportioned between the amount subject to CGT & amount subject to the full MRE.

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback on adding a Partial Main Residence Exemption code to the CGT Worksheet in Xero Tax.

As you know, right now, the best workaround is to manually adjust either the Capital proceeds or Cost base in the worksheet. This helps ensure the correct Net capital gain flows through to Item 18A, and still lets you use Exemption Code I. We know it’s not ideal, and it’s exactly the kind of thing you want a built-in solution for.

We’ve reviewed the idea and moved it to Gaining Support, which means it’s now open for more votes and discussion. Community support plays a big part in helping our product team understand the need. We’ll update the thread if anything changes.

    I paste it again

When the label 2 of an ITR is prefilled, I want to be able to detail or write a breakdown of what that allowance amount consist of from the client's STP income statement. e.g.
    - Laundry ###,
    - Motor vehicle ###,
    - Telephone ###

at the moment the function just inputs the total allowance figure shown in prefill

Hi Christopher, appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. While STP prefill helps reduce manual entry, we understand there are times where additional detail is needed to complete the return.

Having a clearer breakdown of allowances within the tax return could help reduce manual work. We’ve updated the status to Gaining Support so we can track feedback and share interest with the product team.

  11. Any taxpayer can only have one ABN.
Why does Xero leave P5 blank when it could put the ABN (which is already in the client record) into P5 for me?
If you're worried about there sometimes being an ABN in the client record but there being no business that year and it needing to be blank.. then make it work the same as when I rollover from a prior period - last year's fields are rolled over but I can delete them if need be.
Same thing here - when I create the tax return, either:
    - roll-over from the…

  12. Make the Verification fields mandatory in individual records if practice has had to register under rhe new AML/CTF obligations. Could be something in the user practice settings that if the practice has registered with Austrac that they switch this on so all individuals are verified when being set up or could just be mandatory for all. Also add 2 more fields to the Verification to meet the AML requirements: AML Client Risk Rating (CRR) – Low Medium or High
AML CRR Reason – enter the reason you gave the client the above rating

Thanks for sharing this idea about client verification mandatory for individual records, and adding fields for AML client risk rating and the reason for that rating.

If this would help your practice as well, please add your vote and comment with a brief example of your workflow. Details like whether you currently track this outside Xero, how often it creates extra admin, or what information you need to capture for AML/CTF purposes will help show the impact and build support for the idea.

    Hi there 🙂

Thanks for sharing this with us — we understand how frustrating it is when the address lookup repeats the town or suburb and creates extra tidy-up work.

We’re aware of this behaviour, and we’ve now moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can better gauge community interest and understand the wider impact this is having for customers.

We’ll continue to monitor the feedback here as it comes in. Thanks again for taking the time to raise it.

  14. There is currently no option in XPM to build a report that shows the GST returns that have not been created yet. Whilst this is possible using the [Client] Tax Return Status field for Financial year end returns, it is not possible for GST returns.

For practices needing to file 100s of GST returns for various clients each month. Having the ability to see, for a given period, whether any GST filings were missed would be extremely helpful.

Hi David, we appreciate your idea about GST return tracking in XPM. Being able to create a custom report to view GST returns that haven’t been done yet would be really helpful, especially for practices managing high volumes of returns.

We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support, so it’s now open for votes and comments. The more feedback and use cases shared here, the better our product team can understand how valuable this would be.

We’d love to hear how others currently manage GST return tracking and whether this report would support your workflow. Thanks again for starting the conversation!

  15. For notes made in Tax Payments: these need to be split into 2 areas, (1) notes pertaining to that provisional installment and, (2) notes that will continue to roll forward.

It is crucial that even if the installment date has passed, the notes are still visible. Also from the main Tax Payments screen we need an indicator on the client row to show that the client has an active note (with the ability to archive a note as well).

  16. Would be very beneficial to be able to run a report listing all clients who have outstanding transfers and refunds for a period (and export it). We need to be proactive and contact the IRD before they refund the client instead of actioning a transfer as requested. In APS we could pick up any mismatch early and were able to contact the IRD or the client and rectify quickly.

  17. It would be great to be able to create our own reports using any datas available in the system and not be restricted to the pre-existing one : my need is to mix some information from the payables with information from the third party card but I cannot do that directly in the solution I need to export both and do it in excel.

  18. In Tax Statements, under Transfers tab: the "auto mark as complete" needs to happen by both amount and date. So need the ability to set the effective date for the transfer to occur, therefore if IRD does something different we are alerted.

Currently if transfer is the same $ value or more, then Xero automatically marks as complete, this should not occur. If the $ is more then the transfer has not gone as expected and we need to be alerted to this.

For transfers that IRD does that are higher than expected we need to be able to set…

Thanks for supporting this idea, everyone.

While we know this isn't a perfect solution, the current workaround is to manually track these transfers and we have some help on doing this within Xero Central.

While we understand the desire for improvements to this process, we want to be upfront that this isn't in our current roadmap.

As you may have heard from our recent Xerocon announcements there are lots of exciting improvements coming within the Practice space over the coming months that we our teams are developing for.

While we will move the idea to Not in pipeline, should there be any change around this we will be sure to share with you here.

  19. When preparing future year return, in my case, FY2025 tax return for one individual client, even though it shows 2025 tax year, Xero tax is actually FY2024 tax rate for calculation. So the result is not accurate. Will Xero Tax fix this issue in the future?

Thanks for sharing your feedback here. We understand the request to add job type as a search or filter option in Xero Practice Hub. Having this available could help you find the jobs you're looking for more quickly and manage your workload more efficiently.

We've updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest from the community. If this would improve your workflow, add your vote and share your thoughts with us.
