  1. Currently, Xero Tax allows a trust tax return to be completed and lodged even when a beneficiary's TFN has not been entered, despite the TFN being required in certain beneficiary statements and trust reporting schedules.
It would be helpful if Xero included a validation check that prevents the trust tax return from being finalised or lodged where a beneficiary TFN is mandatory but has not been entered. This could work in the same way as other critical validation errors that must be resolved before lodgement.
For our practice, this would reduce the risk of incomplete or incorrect trust reporting, improve…

    Appreciate your feedback, Nikki.

Having a mandatory TFN check for beneficiaries where required could make Trust Tax Return preparation more consistent and help reduce the need for manual checks before lodgement.

We've updated the status to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking community interest. Add your vote if this could improve your workflow.

  2. Import a completed year end file into Xero. Store in Custom report, can't be amended, as this represents the final published accounts. Would be great to keep a permanent copy here, like all of our previous Published reports, that we can no longer use due to a change in reporting standards (NZ changes to incorporated societies reporting requirements under XRB).

Thanks for sharing more detail around your suggestion. We understand the request to upload prepared year-end reports into Xero's Published Reports so all final financial records can be stored in one place. Having the ability to keep these documents alongside reports created in Xero could make record keeping and year-end reporting easier.

In the meantime, you can upload completed reports to Files to keep them stored within your Xero organisation.

We've updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest from the community. If this would improve your workflow, add your vote and share how you'd like to use it.

  3. If I have a report and a column is a formula.

When I export that report to excel, the column has the underlying formula in each cell.

The column even has that formula in a cell that is in a total row. This is okay if the formula is a percentage, but never if the formula is an amount.

A total row with an amount should always be the total of the cells above it. Never any other formula.

Other column types (such as date), do not suffer this issue, they will correctly insert a formula that sums the cells…

Hi Sam, really appreciate you coming into our Xero Support team about this so we could get a closer look into the behaviour that you've mentioned.

I've re-opened this and slightly adjusted the title of your idea now that we have a clearer picture. Just to highlight for others coming across - currently when you export a report to Excel the formula in the column takes precedence over the total calculation.

There are no plans for changing this at this time, however we'd like to get a wider sense of thew interest through the idea here so that our product teams can consider this in future planning. Thank you

  4. U.S. State Returns - USE TAX PROCESSING NOTES
    6/10/26
Note: the following notes are based on treatment of Use Tax in California and South Dakota. I believe that the procedures listed would apply to most states that impose a Use Tax.
    What is Use Tax?
Use Tax is the term used to describe the “Sales Tax Equivalent” that applies when an organization purchases a taxable item/items from a vendor and the invoice for the purchase does not contain a charge for the appropriate sales tax. The amount of the Use Tax is typically the same amount as the Sales Tax…

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this idea and explain the use case in such detail ✨ We can understand how improved support for use tax application and returns would be beneficial for your business, especially where the accounting treatment needs to reflect the true acquisition cost of purchased items.

We’re moving this idea forward to help it gain support and to better understand how much interest there is from the wider community. While we can’t guarantee this is something we’re planning to deliver in the near future, hearing from customers like you helps us assess the impact of this need and where it sits alongside other priorities.

We really appreciate you taking the time to highlight this and add your perspective.

  5. The ATO are pushing hard to collect debt, and as Accountants we want to keep a finger on the pulse of amounts owing to the ATO for our clients.

At this point in time, i am not aware of a report we can generate through the ATO portal which tells us ALL the debt which is owed by our clients, across all their accounts, Tax, GST, Super etc.

Yes there is an integrated debt report we can run, but it only shows the ICA debt. By accident if someone has an ICA debt and a tax debt both will appear…

Hi Richard, thanks for sharing this idea. We understand how having a report that shows a client's total ATO debt in one place could make it easier for practices to monitor outstanding tax obligations and prepare for client conversations.

We'll keep on monitoring the interest on this idea. If this is something you'd like to see, please keep voting and let us know what information you'd like to be included in this report.

  6. A specific App or button for trades and construction businesses to use to produce the reports needed by the QBCC annually to be compliant and maintain their trade licenses. Annual compliance and reporting to QBCC for construction businesses is a complex procedure, but I am sure everything they ask us to produce is available in Xero. If Xero could create an easy method to provide this information at the click of a button, it would save a lot of time and money at the accountant's office. When you are not a numbers person but a tradie, the compulsory annual reporting…

Hi Skubi, thanks for your feedback on this idea. We understand that having a dedicated QBCC Annual Financial Reporting package could make it easier for Queensland construction businesses to prepare the reports needed to meet their compliance requirements.

I've shifted this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest. If this is something you'd like to see, please keep voting and share how a dedicated QBCC reporting package would support your reporting workflow.

  7. If I record sales tax paid on purchases in the US, Xero reports that as a negative liability on the balance sheet. It should either be reported on the P&L or the line item it applies to should be grossed up on the P&L.

Hi Camille, thanks for sharing this idea and the context behind it.

We can see how having a dedicated way to track US sales tax on purchases could make it easier to manage reporting, reconcile costs, and maintain visibility of tax paid to suppliers.

I've updated the status of this idea to Gaining Support, so if this is something you'd like to see in Xero, please keep on voting and sharing how this would support your workflow.

  8. Tax repayments on UK Tax Returns are automatically offset against the January payment on account, even when it's requested to be sent by cheque or bank transfer. There should be the option for this to be shown separately on the calculation as it will confuse clients when they want to know what is due for payment in January.

  9. UK Self-Assessment Tax Return - reporting dividend information.

On the 2025/26 self-assessment tax return in the section for employment, if the company is a close company further details need to be added such as whether any dividends were paid during the year and the shareholder's % ownership in the company.

I note that the help box relating to percentage shareholding of close company refers to "if no dividends were received, enter 0". This doesn't reflect what this section refers to i.e., percentage shareholding. So the help box needs updating.

Hi Simon 😊 Thanks so much for taking the time to share this and for explaining the issue so clearly. We can see why this is confusing — the help text on the percentage shareholding field refers to dividends, when that field is actually asking for shareholding information.

We appreciate clear guidance is especially important in this area, so we’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so we can keep tracking interest and feedback while this is reviewed further. Thanks again for raising it and helping us improve the experience.

  10. When looking at the profit for the current year in a multi currency situation, Xero just uses the conversion date of the report for the lump sum of the year, rather than the exchange rate from each month and then adding them together. This means anyone who has been entering the info into a larger group on a month by month basis has to consistently make forex adjustments, even though they have used the Xero rates of exchange in all the prior months P&L's.

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing this suggestion. The idea is to have the report reflect the historical monthly exchange rates already used in prior period reporting, helping reduce the need for manual foreign exchange adjustments when consolidating financial information.

Thanks again for sharing this feedback. We appreciate the examples from the community around how this could make multi-currency reporting more consistent.

Thanks for bringing this to us Vicki. We have moved this to Gaining Support so others can vote and comment and we can gauge community sentiment. Please note, if you do downgrade to a ledger plan you can publish reports prior to this so you have the data, but we acknowledge that you can't access live data.

  12. Aged payable report - please add drop down in the filter - bank account number detail. This would be helpful to cross check bank accounts before getting to the 'create batch for payment' especially in schools where we have two people to authorise accounts.

Hi Claire, thanks so much for sharing this idea with us — we’ve reviewed it and we’re now moving it into the gaining support stage 🌟

The next step is to help build visibility and support for the idea. We’d encourage you to share it with friends and colleagues who’d also find this useful, so they can add their vote and leave a comment.

This helps our Product team better gauge public interest and understand how valuable this feature would be for our community.

We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and help shape Xero.

  13. Can you please add a link the note that takes us back to the statement it relates to? i.e. when we click on the note number in the statement, it takes us to the note. Can we get the reverse done too? Then we can more easily check that the note reconciles with the statement figure.

Hi Philippa, thanks for sharing this suggestion.

We understand you’re looking for a way to link report notes directly back to the related transactions or source statements, making it easier to review the details behind key insights.

Having connected notes and transaction references could help make management reporting easier to follow and support more efficient reviews.

We’ll continue to monitor the conversation and gather feedback from the community as this idea gains support.

  14. Add tab toggling over 2 windows so that one can make back-end amendments and go straight back to reviewing an accounting report.

To supplement month-end/year-end review and sign offs, add a feature for Review Comments and Tracking.

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing this suggestion. We understand you’re looking for an internal comment and query workflow within reports, so teams can discuss findings and review items without needing to move between different tools.

Having collaboration features built into reports could help make review processes more connected and keep conversations closer to the work being completed.

I’ve updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue gathering feedback and examples from the community.

Because this thread also packages a separate request regarding a tab-toggle layout to switch between report views, we ask that you create a new, dedicated idea for that specific navigation change so it can build its own support from the community

  16. The Tax summary table in the tax return needs to show the 7th May provisional still owing as seperate to the remainder being due for terminal 7th April. Currently itt is grouped all in terminal meaning it is incorrect as doesnt show clients they need to pay an amount a year earlier

Hi Gary, thanks for sharing this suggestion. We understand you’re looking for payment summaries and letters to show 7 May Provisional Tax and 7 April Terminal Tax as separate items, rather than combining them.

Having these tax obligations separated could make it easier to review amounts and communicate payment details to clients during busy compliance periods.

I’ve updated this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue gathering feedback and examples from the community.

  17. To confirm, there isn’t currently a way to move the Supplementary income section so that it appears straight after the main Income section in the printed ITR.
When using the new layout, Xero Tax does let you customise print settings, but this only lets you choose which main sections to print and reorder the sections that are available in the print pack, but it doesn’t let you change the internal order of the Individual return such as the Supplementary income section.

This makes it difficult if you quickly want to look in the ITR and review all of the income…

Hi Carly, thanks for raising this idea.

We can see how placing the Supplementary Income section directly after the main Income section could create a more consistent reading flow and reduce the need to move back and forth between pages during reviews.

I’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest and share the feedback with our product teams.

  18. Every new year tax year (1 April) the reports for the previous year that we are still using ie 31 March 2025 automatically change to the 31 March of the current year ie 31 March 2027 and the Last Financial year changes to 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026.
In the drop down box for the Pack Date Range Custom would it be possible to add a Last financial year -1 so that it reads the date range for the previous year that we are still compiling for ie: Date range 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.

Thanks for taking the time to explain how you’re using the Pack date range and why you’d like a “Last financial year -1” option. This isn’t something we’re actively working on right now, so we’re moving your idea to Gaining support. This lets other partners and small businesses add their vote and specific scenarios, which helps our product teams understand how many people are impacted and how this should be prioritised alongside other reporting work.

In the meantime, the best available workaround is to set the prior year using a Custom date range and reuse that report pack where possible.

  19. More flexibility for cash flow forecasting - categorisation by account code, manual upload to edit upcoming items rather than one by one, customising summaries (like month end balances).

Appreciate you sharing how we could improve Cash flow manager, Vanisha. I've just split your idea into 2 so we can track the customisation and bulk update portions separately.

You'll find the idea for bulk updates across here.

  20. Dropdown list of Tax Return items.

    Hi Xero Team,

I’d like to suggest a possible enhancement to the Tax Returns section for easier navigation.

Would it be possible to add dropdowns (or expandable lists) that show all tax return items within each section, similar to the attached example? This would make it much easier to jump directly to specific items instead of scrolling through the full return.

For example, having a dropdown list for all income categories, deductions, offsets, and other tax return items would help users quickly locate the exact section they need, especially when reviewing or updating multiple…

Hi Sailah, thanks for sharing your feedback here. We can see how long lists in tax returns can make navigation harder, especially as returns become more detailed.

A collapsible or expandable layout could make it easier to focus on the section you’re working on. We’ve moved this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue tracking interest and share the feedback with our product teams.
