It would save time and avoid accounting errors if a new document type existed (akin to Bills) that can be sent to recipients (contacts) generating the accounting transactions appropriate for distributions such as dividends and appointments from trusts. Those transactions would be on equity and assets accounts (not expense accounts and accounts payable as is the case for Bills).

    It would be great if such processing could be applied to contacts in bulk (e.g. a shareholders register) but the possibility of accounting for distributions singly would be a good start.

    I am a trustee and the usual distributions are cash…

  2. Provide reports (for both draft pay runs and posted pay runs) in a matrix format like other Xero reports, rather than listed under each employee. The current format makes it impossible to carry out checks or to create further reports for management.

    Given the latest update that improving payroll reports is not a priority for Xero, we are very close to leaving Xero and moving to another payroll provider for the next financial year, as all other softwares we have used during our careers have provided far more useful reporting than what Xero offers.

  3. Report Codes ability to edit from Chart of Accounts, not separate area. I see that you have marked previous suggestions as completed, because you've added a button. It isn't a button we are seeking, it is the ability to edit directly within COA, rather than having to go elsewhere. The elsewhere is still a useful tool to help identify when clients have added their own codes, but from a click minimisation perspective why not have COA and Report Codes integrated, and provide us with a field to add our nominated report code.

    Hi Justine, thanks for sharing this idea. We appreciate you explaining how integrating report code editing directly into the Chart of Accounts could streamline your workflow. After reviewing this with our product team, we're updating the status to 'Not in pipeline', which means it isn't on the foreseeable roadmap. The idea will remain open for votes so we can continue to gauge community interest. We value your feedback and encourage you to keep sharing your thoughts with us.

  4. I would like to recommend adding 'Effective Date of VAT Registration' on the Financial settings, as this information can easily disappear amongst all the many documents we store for the client and also easily mistaken as the Date of company incorporation that can lead to many issues down the line with HMRC.

  5. I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND A PRODUCT UPDATE ON THE PROFIT & LOSS REPORT.

    THE REPORTS 'Net Profit' ON ALL REPORTS, EVEN IF SOME PERIODS HAVE A LOSS. CAN IT INCLUDE 'Net Profit/(Loss)' AS PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY THOSE NOT IN THE ACCOUNTING FIELD TO KNOW THAT BRACKETS MEANS A LOSS, MAY INTERPRET (LOSS) AS A PROFIT

    Hi Ntando, it'll be good to gauge interest from others in the community that'd like this terminology to be used as a default on the Profit & Loss report.

    Want to be open this isn't anything we have any plans for atm with the customisation that's available.

    As you may already be across, currently you can edit the heading of the row through the Edit layout, and then Save as Custom where you have the option to make the report the default for the organisation.

  7. Leave transaction report - NZ. Could this be changed to select multiple employees & to change the format so that there is a column for employee as opposed to grouping by employee. This enables easier reconciling through Excel. The Australian Leave Transaction report is ideal - could NZ's be made the same or similar.

  8. Trial balance with a column for Tracking Category. Currently I need to download each TB individually if I want it by tracking category, which is very time consuming and inefficient.

  9. Is there a plan in place to update the Edit Report layout to be more user friendly!
    In particular, it is clunky inserting tables and being able to edit like a simple word doc (bold, italic, line spacing etc.)
    Also being able to print off the reports in the 'edit' mode so you can see the expanded breakdown of the accordian would be very helpful to ensure that Notes match Statements of Financial Performance and Position (especially useful for our juniors who often can't work out where their subcodes are if there have been reporting changes)

  10. The PDF preview pane is fantastic... except a page can be lengthy and it doesn't let you scroll on it.
    If I hover my cursor on the PDF preview and scroll (using the scroll wheel of my mouse), it zooms. I almost never need to zoom on it. If I needed to Zoom I would hold control and scroll, like I would on any other browser page.
    I have to move my cursor to this skinny panel either side of the page to be able to scroll, or grab the skinny scroll bar (to the right, not the left).

    Appreciate your feedback, Sam. We don't have any immediate changes planned to the zoom and scroll behaviour of the reporting preview. For now we'll track interest your idea receives here and update if there's any progress around this.

  11. Assign staff as bulk. At the moment I need to add everyone who I want to assign to a project individually and then click done and then go back to assign and do it again. It would be easy if we could select the staff once and once click done.

  13. For the Annual Financial Statements, it may be useful to include the entity’s registration number directly beneath the entity’s name in brackets — for example:

    The New Company (Pty) Ltd
    (2025/######/07).

    This can be applied on both the cover page and in the header for consistency

  14. A Custom Aged Receivables report that can be generated with additional fields selected (banking details as per attached Netcash Template) for import to Netcash to create a debit batch. Xero will then also have to make provision for to the banking details fields on the contact's account as required by Netcash.

  15. We have clients where a sigificant proportion of their sales are Zero rated, which can significanly affect both net and VAT totals in certain boxes as well as the overall value in box 5 to be paid/repaid.

    Could you create a report that allows the totals in boxes 1-9 to be listed, allowing comparison with prior months or periods or years.

    This will be useful to see, say, the last 3 months or the corresponding prior year amounts so that percentages can be reviewed.

  16. We pay contractors based on sales reports for each contractor. Getting this report is easy. In fact, Xero does that well. However, to get that same report and deduct a % value or any other value to work out what the contractor payment will be. Then being able to save & print & Email that report. Currently, we export to Excel, and whilst that works great, it is fiddly and time consuming. Probably not for everyone, but handy for some.

    THi Steven 👋, thanks for raising this idea. We appreciate its not straightforward calculating the percentage of invoices paid to contractors, which we know creates extra manual work. Although this is not on our current roadmap, we will monitor this idea for votes and other comments. However, for now, a workaround would continue to be to export the report and use a spreadsheet application to calculate the percentages. 📈

  17. Allow self employed who are not VAT registered to use MTD.
    I've just signed up to submit accounts via MTD with HMRC but Xero currently don't allow me to do this unless I use an accountant. I use Xero so I don't need an accountant... I'm now a bit stuck as HMRC require me to submit account for the current 2025-2026 tax year this way and I have no way of doing this. Please help! thanks.

  18. Hi Team,

    We would like to highlight that in India, it is a regulatory requirement to maintain an edit log (Audit Trail) based on the Triple ‘W’ Approach – When, Who, and What.

    For example, if a journal entry is edited, the system should capture and display:

    Previous values (amount, GL code, date, narration, etc.)

    Since this is a regulatory requirement, could you please confirm if an enhancement can be made to comply with this, and share an estimated timeline?

  19. It seems we can only class expenses within the profit & loss as staff costs or other charges. Ideally the breakdown should match the tax return.

  20. Please show the VAT number on the VAT page. At the moment either need to go via the Financial settings or drill into a VAT return to see the VAT registration number. Would be good if quickly visible on the VAT page
