NZ GST - Export file to include "GST Return" in naming convention
The new modernised GST returns in Xero no longer export the report name in the exported file name. The document only has the client name and date, not the report type anymore. Should say "XXXX Ltd 30 11 2024 GST Return", whereas it currently only says XXXX Ltd 30 11 2024". Inefficient to have to manually add the words "GST Return" for each report produced in Blue Xero when sending multiple documents to clients. Is there a way to get it back? Within the document itself it says the report type, but would be preferred to be included in the…

Account transactions report - Option to Group by year
In the Account Transactions report, the Grouping / Summarising box should allow you to group/summarise by Financial Year.
For example so you can look at multiple years in a row, but you still get subheadings/ breaks for each financial year. This would be really helpful when looking at recurring expenses like finance / insurance payments.
Thanks

Business snapshot - Link to default custom Profit & Loss Report
Business snapshot - link to default custom Profit & Loss Report
We use a custom Profit & Loss Report which is default.
Unfortunately the Business snapshot links to the standard xero Profit & Loss Report not the custom default Profit & Loss report.
Can the Business snapshot be changed to link to the custom default reports?5 votes -
Management Reports - Allow flexible average comparison periods
Currently, when generating management reports in Xero, users have the ability to compare data across prior months and multiple periods. Some reports, like the Cash Summary, also include an “Average” option, which is a helpful feature for identifying trends.
It would be highly beneficial to extend this “Average” functionality to all relevant reports—particularly the Profit & Loss report—to provide more consistent and insightful analysis.
Additionally, the current average is calculated based on the financial year to date. This approach becomes less useful at the start of a new financial year when only limited data is available. To improve this, it…

Manual Journals - Assign to a customer as a Bilable Expense/Credit
It would be good if the "Manual Journal" can be linked to Customer and view at "Billable Expenses - Outstanding".

We appreciate you taking time to let us know how we could improve Xero for you.

Delete discontinued tracking categories from reports
It would assist to have discontinued tracking categories no longer showing on drop down menus for reports. We have several categories that are no longer in use but still show up on reporting options.
4 votesThanks for your idea and sharing in the forums here, Rachel.
Consideration would need to be given to how this behaves before and after a report date or date range is set, incase running for an older period that would include transaction lines that were categorised to an archived tracking option.
Being upfront, this isn't something we have any plans around for the time being, but we'll source interest from the community in this here, and share if there are any updates.

Budget - Select multiple tracking options when creating budget
Selecting Multiple tracking Categories in one Budget
I work in an NPO and we have a very complex system, we have 4 departments and in our department we work on many different projects which run over different year periods. we also have donors that donate to more than one project with donations overlapping financial year periods.
we have created two tracking categories, Projects and Donors. Under each category there is multiple options, For example Marketing team - school project and marketing team University project.
We would please like to be able to 1 create budget for each department by selecting…
18 votesHi team, if I understand correctly it sounds like you'd like to create a Budget that consists of multiple options within a single tracking category? Atm, it is only possible to create a filtered budget by one option within each tracking category.
It's not something we have plans for atm, however I'll slightly rename your idea here and we'll get a sense of the interest from the community in this.

Aged receivable summary - Include prepayments/deposits for future invoices.
For the Aged Receivables it would be helpful to know what customers owe us as well as what we owe them. We take deposits for future invoices and they don't show on the Aged REceivable Summary.
8 votesPerhaps the Receivable Invoice Summary or Detail reports would accommodate your needs here? Omitting the aging periods this report can be filtered to only show the Status and Source(Receivable Prepayment, Receivable Invoice etc.) of transactions you'd like to see.

Xero Accounting app - View VAT due
It would be extremely useful if we could view VAT on the dashboard of mobile phone app. Director only uses Xero on his phone so can never keep track of what VAT is due.
5 votesThanks for your idea here, Sue. Understand how different details would be helpful for different users on the go through the Xero Accounting app.
This isn't something we have plans for right now, but we'll continue to track the interest from your idea here.

Tracking Summary Report - Add quantity Column
Hi there, would be awesome to be able to have a column in the Xero Tracking Summary Report which would sum up the quantities from what you entered in the quantity column in the Receive Money/Spend Money when you reconcile the transactions. This is especially important when organisations are measuring the quantities (eg. number of trips taken; number of food parcels handed out) are used with Xero. As it takes a lot of time to go into each transaction and see what the quantities are to get the group total, this feature would save people a lot of time.

We're continuing to track the interest for adding quantity as a column to the Tracking Summary report. This isn't something we have any plans for at present. If there are any updates we'll share with you here.

Fixed Assets - Add tax depreciation for UK
Fixed Assets - Add tax depreciation for UK
At the moment, only the Australian version of Xero offers a tax depreciation function. We need this feature in the UK version too if Xero Tax is to be considered as a serious Tax software.3 votesWe appreciate your feedback on how we could help you get more out of using Fixed Assets in the UK version of Xero.
Though we don't have any immediate plans for this we'll keep watching the support for this grow here, and update of there are any changes planned. Thanks

VAT - Support multiple VAT accounts for control and suspense
Can the VAT account be split into two, a method that Sage utilises?
A vat control account and a VAT suspense account.
The VAT suspense account will show the balance of the Dr or Cr of vat payable or owing from transactions included in the VAT return, this is where the Vat payments to/from HMRC are posted.
The VAT control account shows the balance of transactions where input/output VAT has been realised from invoices raised/received, but are not yet included in the VAT return typically because the the company is operating the VAT cash scheme.
These two accounts could be…
4 votesThanks for explaining what you’re trying to achieve. We’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so others with the same need can add their support and feedback.
To clarify, in Xero, cash and accrual are reporting options rather than separate sets of transactions or tax-account balances. Accrual reporting recognises income and expenses when they’re earned or incurred, while cash reporting recognises them when payment is received or made.
This means the same transactions can be viewed differently depending on the reporting basis selected. The tax account remains a single ledger account, and the tax basis can differ from the basis used for financial reports.
For the cash-basis visibility you’re looking for, the relevant reports can be run on a cash basis and filtered to the tax account where needed. The tax reconciliation report can also help reconcile the cash-basis amounts back to the single tax account.

NZ GST - Allow users to open multiple GST returns in different tabs
New NZ GST return - brings up the GST return for the wrong entity.
This is not a new idea, but a critical flaw in the new GST return that needs to be addressed right away. I have gone to support and they confirm that it is a Xero issue. "Currently, the Product Team have confirmed it’s not possible to work on multiple GST returns across multiple browsers using the new GST return." Then they said the best way is to put the idea on this page, so here goes.
We prepare GST returns for clients that often have one…14 votes -
Report - Option to remove account codes when publishing
Remove all account codes check box upon financial statement publishing
We need this check box added when we publish our EOFY financial statements - a similar box already exists to remove all decimal places yet we have to manually go to the trading statement, income statement, balance sheet and equity accounts and manually turn off account codes on each page.
A simple box to remove all account codes when publishing just like the decimal place box would be fantastic
Please fix this

UK CIS Suffered Report: Correct Xero to allocate credit notes correctly
IDEA - CIS suffered report to calculate the CIS suffered correctly.
ISSUE - If you apply a credit note to an invoice that has both CIS labour and CIS materials, Xero does not calculate the CIS suffered correctly. Even though the credit note is coded to the correct nominal code, Xero doesn't recognise this. This causes the CIS suffered report to reduce the deduction amount which is incorrect. This means the figure you submit to HMRC is lower than it should be. Meaning less of a refund of CIS suffered than it actually should be.

Sales Tax Report (US) - Recognize California's TY 6/30-7/1
Xero's Sales Tax Report doesn't recognize the great state of California's tax year: 7/1-6/30. Xero pull-downs only offer calendar-year options (1/1-12/31). So, we couldn't set up Sales Tax Report for largest state in the US. Please fix this. We can do it ad infinitum manually, but it seems that Xero could fix the problem. (Avalara could inform Xero if other US states also vary from a simple calendar Tax Year reporting.)
2 votesAppreciate you sharing your idea and why you'd find an automated date setting for California on the Sales Tax report helpful, Cheryl.
Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!
We'll keep an eye on the traction this gets in the community, here. Thanks
