Hi all, we wanted to share an update for our US customers that sending invoices via SMS is now available! We have just released this functionality and you can use the same Xero Central article as shared in the last update to understand the in's & out's of how this works. After this release we will be working on delivering this to the UK and NZ markets. As mentioned initially this is limited to the Stripe payment service but we will also be expanding this other payment services down the line.

Hey everyone👋 Thanks so much for sharing all your feedback and keeping the conversation going here. We've been following along and considering changes around the process for adding payments in new invoicing.
As we mentioned in our last update, while we won’t be bringing classic invoicing back, we're taking a close look at what made it work so well for you. The ability to quickly enter payment information without leaving the invoice is a key part of that.
To address this, our product team is now working to reintroduce this functionality to the invoice page.
We can’t share a timeline just yet, but we want you to know that your comments have been a vital part of this process. We’ll be sure to post an update here as soon as we have more to share.🙂

543 votesHi community, we appreciate the continued traction this idea's received, and do want to provide clarity and set expectation.
Your feedback has been valuable in understanding the needs of using description only lines to; add subheadings, provide context for grouped charges, and ensure your invoices are easy for your clients to read and understand.
To reconfirm, atm - You can add one-off description only lines as you enter an invoice. However, if you add detail to any other field the line will be treated as a 'financial' line and you'll need to include Qty, Unit price, Account and Tax rate.
- We know some users have set up and saved inventory items for description only lines they commonly use, however as the item code field is used for inventory items the line of the invoice is treated as 'financial' meaning you'll then need to include Qty, Unit price, Account and Tax…

Thanks for your continued engagement and valuable feedback on this long-standing idea, everyone. We've been carefully reviewing your comments and want to acknowledge the clear sentiment of frustration regarding the current limitations around managing multiple addresses for contacts, particularly for invoicing and delivery purposes, and that this is a critical feature to many of you.
We want to share an update on our progress here - We're pleased to confirm that the foundational work for handling multiple addresses has been completed within the Contacts area of Xero. This was a crucial first step. Building on this, now that all customers are on the new invoicing experience our product team has moved into the discovery phase for adding multiple addresses directly within invoicing. This means they are actively exploring the best way to implement this functionality to meet your needs effectively.
We appreciate your patience as we work through the complexities…

Hi Kelly
It is a year since you commented on this request. As you have not updated us, I take it that there has been no progression.
WHY. This request is a BASIC FUNCTION of any decent accounting package and really should be ADDED before XERO makes any further PRICE HIKESAn error occurred while saving the comment

Kelly, it’s been 7 months and an update is needed. I think it’s important to communicate regularly on the progress. You have indicated that you are WORKING ON THIS and therefor 7 months of programming should have even enough time to make this correction/improvement. I know that some of these requests need to be coded using a more modern platform but fur USER EXPERIENCE & LOYALITY Xero needs to communicate the progress.
Please check all the suggests you have commented on and PROVIDE AN UPDATE, even if the task has taken you longer than expected.

Hi everyone, we’ve taken time to review the suggestion to include custom fields for both invoices and contacts, and recognise the value it'd bring in helping users capture more detailed information and avoid manual processes.
However, with other focuses drawing the teams attention such as multiple addresses this idea is not on our current development roadmap.
As we continue to plan future roadmaps, being highly supported this idea will continue to be considered, however we want to be open about it's current position with you all here. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and for your ongoing participation in the Xero community. Any changes to this status will be shared with everyone on this idea.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
Kelly
This function is CRITICAL if we are to get VALUE out of XERO. We have Customers that need additional information, which can't be replicated in XERO from CIN7 due to XERO not having the option of ADDITIONAL FIELDS.
If we could, we would be able to MAXIMISE the function of AUTO REMINDERS for certain Customers. Our staff waste time resending unpaid invoices.
This function SHOULD ALREADY be in XERO. Other accounting software have it.Also you said that there was not likely to be any action for the next 12 months. That was back in March 2023. So it's now 2 years later.
Have XERO put this on the agenda yet?
If not, who do I need to talk to explain how important this function is. As a share holder, it ****** me off that XERO is not listening to their Customers (even though Xero is making money for me). To continue to focus on making money is a rather short sighted strategy as once you have Customers leave they will not come back.
I hope that the team making the call on what gets prioritised are not TECHNICAL PEOPLE or MARKETING PEOPLE but people with REAL BUSINESS knowledgeAn error occurred while saving the comment

"to improve profitability, counteract a slowdown sales" as reported by XeroIt's things like not implementing this absolute necessity for Customers is why you are seeing a slowdown in sales. People are not moving to Xero. If I know what I knit now how Xero does not listen to Users would not have moved from MYOB. Still on my agenda this year to review
As stated in the Interim FY24 report NET PROFIT is $54.1m
FY$158.4m EBITDA show me that Xero has the $ to invest in these fundamental fixes if it wants to stay competitive and relevant

Kelly, I truely believe that there are many lost customers who are not move in to XERO due to this issue. Like Andre Percival said on the 11 September 2023, he believes he needs to move back to QBO to get the function he needs.
I under that that the coding needs to be updated for this to happen. Then XERO just needs to prioritise this upgrade to be critical.

Hi Kelly
I have just had clarity by talking to XERO support.
I now understand that XERO has parts of it written in older code (old technology - not quite as old as DOS but definitely not as new as Window 11).
And that some of these suggestions would be a waste of money to add now as it would be on old code. Until that section of XERO is upgraded, there is not point doing the improvement.
What would be great is to get an idea of when this section (Invoicing) will be upgraded so this suggestion can be implemented. You said not in the next 12 months. So can I expect something by 4th QRT 2024? If not, let us know when.
As an alternative concept, once the code has been updated, you could work on a SIMPLE invoicing process and an ADVANCED invoicing process (see DEAR/CIN7 core on how they manage this)
These additional custom fields need to be in the header part of the invoice (advanced invoicing). I would even consider paying for the ADVANCED INVOICING function. This would enable us to use the other beautiful functions in XERO such as automatic reminders. I am paying enormous amount for DEAR/CIN7 core to have this function which is ridiculous.

Can XERO please give us an update on where this is up to. Has the Development team even reviewed this?
As businesses are being requested by their Customers to provide additional information to enable the Customer to better track expenditure, this is CRITICAL

Hi everyone, a year on from my last engagement we wanted to provide an update for you all here.
As many will be across we're in the midst of making a lot of iterations and improvements to new invoicing leading up to the retirement of classic invoicing in September (2024).
We have a fair amount of work lined up in the teams schedule over the coming months and to give an indication there isn't any committed plans around a function to add interest to invoices.
That said, we do have a team that have picked up and are considering how we might solve this with the technology in new invoicing - It's early days on this yet, but I'll share if there's any progress on this for you all here.
In the meantime, as has been shared by others over time there are a few ways you could accomplish this…

Hi community, we acknowledge the strong feelings in this idea and why you need a feature to flag bills directly within Xero. We really appreciate all your feedback and the detailed explanations of how this would help streamline your accounts payable.
We are dedicated to providing a solution for this over the longer term, but this will take some time requiring changes that sit beneath the face of bills.
In lieu of a direct feature for this we wanted to highlight some of the options discussed by the community here:
- Add a note to the bill: A detailed note on the bill itself can serve as a clear internal reminder of the dispute.
- Utilise tracking categories: Creating a specific tracking category like "Disputed Bills" can help you filter and report on these items.
- Adjust the due date: Temporarily extending the due date can prevent accidental payment while the dispute is…

Hi community, we appreciate this idea has collected a fair amount of votes and commentary. This has all been feedback and taken seriously by our product teams.
Currently, there are ways to record a bad debt in Xero, depending on your tax registration status and how you want the transactions to be recorded in your reports - We have help for this on Xero Central you can draw into.
We don’t have any plans in the near term to expand functionality to develop a button to write off invoices or bills as 'bad debt'. If anything changes in this space, we’ll update you on this idea!

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for your feedback and for sharing your thoughts on this. It’s clear from the support this idea has gained that automated reminders for superannuation payments could be a huge help for many of you. We hear you and can see how this could make managing your obligations smoother.
Our product team has taken a look at this and we’re exploring how we can build it in to help you stay on top of the proposed PayDay Super changes. It’s on our roadmap, and we’ll keep you posted as things move forward. 🙂

Hi everyone, thanks for your interests and sharing on the idea here. Being totally open, we don't have plans in the near term for any change that'd solve for the idea here. This may be something we consider down the line and will keep the idea here open to continue monitoring.
For the time being, we wanted to share a way you can remove links from the customer statement using a custom branding theme that you'd apply when sending a statement.
Once the new branding theme is created, you can select it when printing or sending the customer statement, and the invoice link will be removed.

Hey Community, thanks for all the support shown for this idea. We understand that the core of this request is for business owners and payroll admins to be able to view, edit and complete draft timesheets.
Our product teams have carefully considered this, however we want to be upfront that developing this capability isn't on our foreseeable roadmap at this time.
The idea will remain open for votes so we can continue to gauge interest, as it will be important for when we next review our payroll priorities. Thanks again for sharing with us here, we really do value your input.

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback on this idea, community. We appreciate that having to manually select attachments on every invoice can feel a little fiddly. We get that you want a smoother workflow, that saves you time.
As noted by others in the idea, one option for now would be to add standard files, like your terms and conditions, directly to your invoice template. That way, they'll be included automatically when you send out your invoices.
To confirm how this functionality currently works - this is based on the user and driven by the last invoice that was sent. Where you have files attached, and you had selected to include files as an attachment when emailing the invoice, the next invoice you send with file attachments should have this selected by default.
A caveat to this is when you are working in incognito mode, or refresh your browser…

Hi everyone, our product teams are continuously reviewing and reprioritising their roadmaps for future work and although we don’t have any plans to change the credit application process this year, this is something we will investigate more closely in 2026.
As we begin to explore work for enabling credit notes in the bill payments flow, we’ll reach out for input to help us shape the design and approach so we cater for the widest possible requirements. Thank you all, and we’ll be back to share when exploration starts.

Hi community, thanks for the strong support in being able to attach files within Xero Payroll, both for employee records and pay runs. We really appreciate you sharing the value and efficiency this could create for you when working with Xero. It's evident that being able to store important documents like licenses, sick notes, and onboarding papers directly in Xero would remove the need for external storing systems or manual processes.
We acknowledge it's not the end goal but wanted to highlight the use of apps, as some have shared like Dext, to help bridge this gap in the meantime.
I want to assure you that enabling attachments in payroll is part of our long-term intentions. However, to deliver this functionality effectively and reliably, we first need to develop some foundational elements within our payroll platform.
We understand your frustration with the timeline and the limited updates, and we're…

Hi team, wanting to provide an update to you here, we want you to know we understand the efficiency more users would like to have in being able to automate the creation of the Xero subscription invoice inside their Xero org.
To highlight from my last update for UK users this is possible with eInvoicing through the online invoice (My Bills page).
This is still something we're interested in developing in more regions however isn't planned in our roadmap just yet.
When resource opens up for us to be able to pick this work up we will share an update with you all on this here. Thanks for staying engaged and supporting in this idea.

@kelly Munro
You advised I n July 2025 this is progressing.
I would like to highlight that this is not progressing inline with XERO’s mission statement and strategy.
For those who are not familiar with the mission statement and strategy, in summary it is
* Purpose-Driven: The core mission is to improve the lives of small business owners and their communities.
* Vision: To be the most insightful and trusted small business platform.
* Strategic Focus (through FY27): Xero focuses on three "Jobs to be Done" (Accounting, Payments, and Payroll) in three key markets: Australia, the UK, and the United States.
* "Your Business Supercharged": The company's brand platform focuses on helping businesses gain control and support.
* Values-Driven: Xero operates on four key values: "Make it beautiful" (creating customer-loved experiences), "Make it happen" (moving fast on the right things), "Make it human" (empathy and inclusivity), and "Make it together" (collaboration).
There are a number of KEY REQUESTS BY USERS that are not being actioned, that meet the current strategy.
As a USER and a SHAREHOLDER, this is extremely disappointing.
WE NEED A DATE ADVISING WHEN THIS WILL BE COMPLETED IN FULL.
