NZ Payroll | Employee - Set up as a 'Casual' employee
It would save a lot of errors if you had an employment type option where once 'casual' was selected as a type, you could only then enter what was needed for casual staff and leave/holiday pay would automatically change accordingly. I have anumber of clients who, when entering new casual staff, inadvertently add hours per day and days per week which then starts the accrual of annual leave and unless they tick the little box under holiday pay, the employee is not paid their 8%.
7 votesHi team, great to get your feedback and support through the idea here. We appreciate these challenges with the current functionality when setting up a casual employee. We’ve started some work around enabling Xero customers to select Employment Types such as casual. While in early stages at present we’ll keep you updated on progress for this here.

CIS - Verify Subcontractor without specifying CIS rate
Using the new Contracts form, when verifying a subcontractor, you are now asked to enter the CIS Tax Rate (Gross, 20% or 30%) before you verify the subcontractor.
You cannot save and verify with HMRC unless this field is completed. Without verification, you cannot be certain as to the tax rate. The error could occur where you choose a rate for the purpose of being able to 'save and verify'. If the verification failed and you required to speak to the contact, or in most cases wait for HMRC to add a subcontractor to the CIS scheme which is currently…

Online Invoice | stripe - Allow customer to save their card on file when making payment
I'm invoicing through Xero and I want to allow customers to save their card on file in my stripe account when they pay an invoice.
This way, we can bill them again in the next cycle. We deal with metered pricing, so the value of the invoice is different each month based on usage.

Bank Rules - Create new Account from a Bank Rule
This feature was included in the old user interface for Bank Rules, and with the new interface that was rolled out, this feature is no longer available. Instead, I'm forced to go to the COA screen to add a new COA code, then refresh my Bank Rules screen to then be able to choose that account. The time this adds, on top of the already manual process to add bank rules, really adds up. I'd love to see this ability again.

Reporting - Opening and Closing balances and movement for multiple contacts
Supplier and customer ledger - to be able to pull a supplier/ customer ledger, instead of pulling reports per contact. This would be ideal if it can be pulled for a certain period, to see all suppliers'/ customers' opening balances, movements and closing balances per supplier/ customer, all on one document.

Bank Reconciliation - Choose which columns to show on the Account Transactions and Bank Statements tabs
The columns visible in Bank Statements and Account Transactions under Bank Accounts are totally different. This makes it almost impossible to search for matching transactions. Can you have default columns that can be selected? Some of the columns are only available when the statement is uploaded and I'm not sure even how useful they are.
7 votesHi Ann, it'd be good to understand more of the detail that you're seeing on each of these screens that is useful to you - Perhaps there's a report we can suggest that gives all that you're after?

AU Payroll - Report showing one line of detail for every pay run paid
Currently, Employee summary gives a a lone total only for the period entered. A report showing one line of detail for every payrun paid, would be very beneficial when processing government claims, or providing information to employees for Centrelink instead of the the cumbersome Activity report, or multiple payslips.

Invoice Template - Make organisation email address a mandatory field
On the invoice template a mandatory field to be completed of the business email address. Majority on Xero invoices sent don't have an email address which makes it difficult to contact the business via email.
7 votesThanks for the confirmation, Andrew and Sue. While it's possible to add the organisations email in the Contact details field of a Standard branding theme, and could be inserted as Static text on an Advanced template, appreciate there is no specific field for this atm, and why you may like to make this mandatory or a default on the template.
We'll leave your idea for making this mandatory here and you may like to also join this idea for providing as a specific field for this in advanced templates. Being open it's not something we have direct plans for atm, but we'll keep an eye on the interest here and share if there's any plans made.

Reporting - Password Protect option for PDF downloads
SureIy this would be a no brainer??
I'd like an option to download PDFs with a password automatically added.
The password could be added in the company setting pages with the option to download "Protected PDF" when you print a report.
This feature seems so simple to create and i'm not sure why it hasn't been thought of.
This would also save us having to do this manually with every report sent to a client.
Please set this up at it would be a great option for bookkeepers and accountants.

Xero Reporting for Philippines ( BIR compliance)
People here in PH are starting to use Xero and I think many more will use it too if you create reports that are required by our Tax Authority such as:
Sales Journal
Purchase Journal
Cash Receipts Journal
Cash Disbursements JournalMost of our clients are asking for this. I really hope you will be able to implement this.
7 votesHi everyone, just wanting to highlight that as Caroline has suggested, it is likely the Account Transactions reports in Xero could be used to create the reports required. However, this depends on what information you require each report to contain.
If anyone is able to reply with more specific details on whether any information is unable to be obtained via the account transaction report this will help our product team better understand what's needed.

Manual Journals: Allow placeholders in standard manual journals
Placeholders are really useful in repeating manual journal entry - could we please have them in regular manual journals?
Oftentimes it will be necessary to repeat a series of manual entries when realising income in advance as revenue however the amounts will vary so a manual journal is required for each instance.
Being able to have [Month] etc in the narration would make it much faster to populate each entry. [Example: "Revenue realised in [Month]"

GST | Re-registering - Pick start date
Sometimes an entity will de-register for GST because they are no longer required to file, then circumstances change and they re-register. Currently in Xero when you re-register Xero creates all the prior period GST returns for when the client was deregistered. You then have to manually delete all the prior draft returns.
Would be great if you could have an option to choose the new start date for GST.
thanks!

Invoices - Automatically mark invoices from WFM as Sent to set off Reminders
When an invoice in emailed in Workflowmax it is marked with a tick as “Sent”, however this does not carry through to Xero. Is it possible to add this feature so that invoice payment reminders in Xero automatically work without the need to manually change the invoice status to “Sent”?

Hybrid or Modified Cash Basis Reporting
Most of our clients (and I imagine many small businesses in the U.S.) use a hybrid reporting basis. Basically, short term assets and liabilities are recorded using the cash basis while long term assets and liabilities are recorded using the accrual basis.
Therefore, for example, this will result in sales being recorded when cash received but depreciation and amortization expense are recorded monthly. This method of reporting also results in the accounting basis being more similar to tax basis.Xero actually has a webpage describing this (https://www.xero.com/us/guides/cash-vs-accrual-accounting) but states "And if you run a hybrid accounting system, smart…

Reconciliation - Create Bill instead of Spend Money
It would be very useful to be able to generate a Bill when Reconciling, instead of just being able to "Spend Money". This would allow much better tracking of transactions, since money leaving an account via Spent Money is far less visible than when a Bill is paid.
Specifically:
When PayPal is enabled as a Payment Method, and a customer pays their Invoice this way, the associated PayPal account shows two entries in the Bank Feed ready for Reconciliation:
1) A transaction fee is deducted from the PayPal account.
2) The full amount of the payment into the PayPal account.…
7 votesHi Faris, generally as a bill is received prior to payment so currently it's expected that the bill would already exist in Xero when reconciling.
Appreciate your example of where this could create efficiency and we'll get an idea of the support in this here. 🙂
In the meantime, depending on your type of sales you may find an integration in our App Store that could serve by automatically creating the transactions in Xero.

Bank reconciliation - Show Account Code on spend/receive money
Bank Accounts Cash Coding problems:
xero auto enters "unknown" if payee not used
No Quantity column for shares or livestock transactions
Posted entries disappear which does not allow easy scroll up and down scrutiny of work done
account code does not show for coded entries
bank account description/particulars does not show as per bank statement
ie simply make the bank statements screen like Banklink so I can move my practice.7 votesHi Brian, appreciate your feedback here. However, in order for others in community to understand the specific idea they're supporting and to also share back with the right teams here at Xero we ask to keep one idea per thread.
We have an idea started that you can support for livestock calculations
I've adjusted your idea here specifically for showing the account code in the cash coding screen, and you're welcome to support others cash coding ideas or start others for ideas that are represented.
If you're having any trouble with conversions, I'd recommend coming directly into our team at Support for 1-on-1 help from our specialists. 🙂

MFA - Touch ID and Face ID verification
Implementing touch ID/Face ID verification for users to log into Xero.
Purpose: Users can have more variety on how to log in.
7 votesHi team, as another update surrounding passkeys we wanted to share that this week we've released passkey log in for Xero Me app users who haven't set up MFA yet. This is just the first stage, and over the coming months we'll progressively make this feature available to more users. I'll be back to share more as passkeys become available to more users.

Report templates - Report fields: Customising adviser reports at a client level
Ability to customise adviser reports at a client level.
Purpose: To make the accountant can easily provide the report that suits their client’s preference.
7 votesThanks for sharing your thoughts on how we can improve Xero for you. While our team are considering improvements to Report Templates, currently there are no direct plans for changing the way Report Template fields are updated. We'll continue to keep an eye on the interest of this here, and share if there's any change to this.
