New Invoicing - Typeable dates in Date fields
On the old invoices/bills I could type "18/2/23" and it would auto fill 18th February 2023. Now I have to scroll back multiple months to get there. It would be good if I could type in the date field boxes again. Specifically on "Add Payment"
310 votesWe're pleased to announce that with our latest update you have the ability to directly type dates when making payments on invoices! We know this was a highly requested feature, and we appreciate everyone who voted and shared their input.
For those familiar with our Xero Central article on keyboard shortcuts, you'll be happy to know that all those shortcuts are now fully functional in this date field, as well as all other date fields throughout your invoices.
While a direct dropdown for "yesterday" isn't available, you can quickly enter the previous day's date by typing 't-1'.
As this update delivers the majority of the changes discussed in this idea, we'll now mark it as delivered.
We also heard the feedback from some users who prefer to use a full stop (.) as a date separator instead of the forward slash (/) or hyphen (-). There's a specific idea,…

Contact | Merge - Retain contact and financial details
It would be really helpful when merging suppliers if there was an option to keep all contact and financial details with the updated contact. When an existing supplier joins Xero and starts sending Xero generated invoices that you can upload to Xero if the name is even slightly different it creates a new supplier. This could be as basic as Ltd vs Limited. When these contacts are merged all the existing information is deleted and needs to be re-entered. An option to keep all existing contact information would be great.

Bank Reconciliation - Ability to merge bank accounts
If a Xero client has a credit card that is cancelled due to scam or new card etc, the only option is to create a new bank feed for the card so you can continue to get the data. In this instance, you end up with two bank accounts on your Xero file, both with a balance. At the moment, you can only do a transfer to move 1 balance to the other, than archive the one not needed. It would be nice to be able to merge the two together so that the balance works and the transactions…

Foreign Currency - Ability to turn off
One day I added a foreign currency because I needed the rate for a single transaction, but now all of the detail reports show three foreign exchange columns checked all the time, when I don't need them and don't want them. There is no way to turn off foreign exchange organization wide, nor to get rid of the columns. I am aware that I can make custom reports for account transactions, but the fact is that I use right click to open the account detail in a new tab from an existing report such as a balance sheet or income…

Reporting - Option to "exclude" rather than deselect in filters
The filter right now only allows to select all or select/deselect some, but sometimes it would be easier to be able to just exclude something (an account, a group of accounts, a contact, an invoice etc).
26 votesHi Barbara, when considering your idea here - is there a specific report you'd find the option to exclude rather than deselecting most useful?

Invoicing - Adding a payment refund
Sometimes clients pays an invoice but then if a refund is issued from that invoice to the same client, in Xero there is no option to add a refund on an invoice, you can only add a payment.
You can only add a refund on a CN but no always there is a CN available.
When a company has multiple clients and there is a large movement of funds, refunds and payments it is very difficult to keep track of these and a suspense account has to be used and therefore be reconciled at the end of the year. Is…13 votesHi Sara, along with Credit Notes, there is also facilities for Overpayment and Prepayments. Would these commonly fit the scenarios in which you're describing here where large amounts of funds are transferred and perhaps a business overpays their invoices to the business through which a refund is then issued?
Bein quite a tied in feature to the payments model I want to be open that we don't have any immediate plans for changing this or adding a new type of transactions that would directly add refunds to an invoice.

Manual Journals - Assign Contact name to journal
The ability to assign contact in manual journals.
Purpose: To enable to track journal entries with contact name
210 votesThanks for your interest and sharing your needs in being able to add a Contact to Manual journals you post in Xero. We know this is important for customers and enabling this capability is on our product team's roadmap.
Right now, they're currently focused on other important items of work, however as soon as we're able to dedicate resource to this I'll be back with a further update to share progress with everyone, here.

Xero Files - Attach files to Bank or Nominal Accounts
It would be a really useful to be able to attach files to a bank account within Xero, much as you can to a contact or transaction.
The use cases for this could be:
When a disorganised client send bank statements in as attachments for irregular payments it would be very handy to be able to store those attached to the account in Xero; as close to where I would want to use them as possible. There are supporting documents that relate to an account as a whole - such as an accruals or prepayment schedule that would be great…

Report - Contact created date
Report to see when a customer account was opened/set up. When conducting customer credit account reviews it would be handy if there was a report to see what date a customer account was set up. So you are only reviews accounts that have been opened for a year. At the moment the only way to see when an account was set up is to look at the notes/history on each individual account.

Fixed Assets - Partial allocation of depreciation for business and private use
To have the ability to account for depreciation on both business and private portions of an asset.
Purpose: Save time for users to get the correct figures rather than going through manual process.
261 votesHi community, we're thankful for all your support and letting us know the importance of this idea to you in appropriately recording Fixed Assets in Xero.
As many will have experienced we've launched a new version of Fixed Assets to most regions with just a portion of AU left to receive this new experience. There's been lots of work from the team to develop this version all built on updated technology that'll enable growth in this space, overtime.
Currently, though we've done some initial discovery of what'd be required to build the capability to proportion assets depreciation for business and private use in all regions, this hasn't been currently planned for the short term.
For the time being, we'd recommend posting manual journals to record the private use apportionment of a Fixed Assets depreciation.
If you're using Fixed Assets in NZ it's possible to set up an asset and apportion…

New invoicing - Use persons name from Contact record (rather than contact name)
We would like to see customers contact person's name appearing on the invoice we send. One customer can have different people/contacts for different projects/invoices. Currently we can only pull out the PRIMARY contact's name to the invoice, which means if we would like to add a different name, we have to REMERMBER to edit customer's primary contact to a different person. It is very time consuming and easy to forget too.
Is there any ways we could simply add a contact person against each invoice instead of against each customer? It could be any extra fields we can use,…9 votes -
Contacts - Option to exclude from remittance
Have an area in the contact card to opt out of the remittance advice for that supplier. This will save the time in unticking suppliers that never want remittance advice every time a batch payment is made.

Xero Accounting app - Customise description when adding a receipt
There should be the option to overwrite or set 'default' descriptions when using the Xero app to upload receipts. When it says 'What was it for', a list of suggestions appears. At present it only shows the following options, none of which are applicable for a lot of businesses. Even a small adjustment to show 'Purchases' or 'Materials' would be useful

Tracking categories for bank accounts
i need tracking categories for bank accounts - my client has three different branches within the organisation and all have their own bank account. i have managed to create tracking categories for income and expenses but Xero hasnt provided the function for bank accounts. So when drawing the Financials the bank accounts dont reflect with each relevant branch. Is there a way that this function could be created/considered or has anyone have any recommendations on how to bypass this problem?
13 votesAppreciate seeking options from your community here too.
Trying to think into this one - when you draw funds these statement lines would be reconciled to an equity account in the business? In theory the Tracking would be recorded when the item is reconciled to this account ?
Please do let me know more detail if there's something I'm missing in here?

AU Payroll - Set organisation defaults for 'hours a full-time employee works in a Weekly pay period'
Many of my clients prefer a 37.5 hour work week (7.5 hours a day) to a 38 hour work week (7.6 hours a day).
I am able to set the leave accruals to a 7.5 hour day but the standard work week in "'Assign default leave types" is always 38 hpw and I have to manually change it to 37.5 to match the leave accrual.
I can remember to do this but many of my clients do their own employee set-up and will not remember to change that 38 hour work week to 37.5 each time they set up a…9 votes -

Purchase Order - Link Purchase Order to Bill
Linking Purchase Order to Bill
Purpose: To copy the details from the po to populate the forwarded bill from email fields.
This would enable the ease of processing bills; using the data already on the po and verifying the costs accordingly.
Also this is vital, so that you can match multiple bills to the same po.

Lock dates - Multiple Lock dates that are not linked to each other
Lock Dates - Multiple Lock Dates.
Currently there are two options: "Stop all users (except advisers) making changes on and before" and "Stop all users making changes on and before".
It would be great to have an option where two dates can be entered without one overriding the other. Here is my issue:
I have been trying to put lock dates for different purposes.
i.e. I want to stop ALL users (including advisors) from making changes on or before 31 March 2022, but I also want all users EXCEPT advisors to not make changes on or before 31 March 2023.…3 votes -
Contacts | Purchase orders - Ability to block for a supplier
Ability : To have a function within contact to block raising purchase orders to an individual supplier.
Purpose: To ensure no future orders are placed with suppliers, who we may have had issues with previously. Easier to have a function that would automatically flag this, as opposed to placing note within contact and relying on all to find this information.
