  1. To be able to duplicate a contact, therefore not having to retype in the address, phone number and all other details. You would just need to rename the client and change the IRD number etc before saving. This would be a huge time saver.

Thanks for starting the idea here, Renee.

Just to clarify, when you say ‘duplicate a contact’ would this be; the ability to duplicate an entire client (including all its contacts), to duplicate a contact within an existing client, or duplicate a contact from one client to another?

If the last, we have a similar idea over here that I can join you in with. 🙂

  2. For notes made in Tax Payments: these need to be split into 2 areas, (1) notes pertaining to that provisional installment and, (2) notes that will continue to roll forward.

It is crucial that even if the installment date has passed, the notes are still visible. Also from the main Tax Payments screen we need an indicator on the client row to show that the client has an active note (with the ability to archive a note as well).

  3. We need the ability to prepare a future tax return for a SMSF as this is required to wind up a fund prior to year end. A trustee company can't be deregistered with the ASIC until a final tax return is lodged with the tax office so the time delay in preparing a future return impacts the client on annual company statements and costs associated with that as well.

The ability to prepare a future year return in Xero tax exists for other entity types but not SMSF's for some reason.

Hi everyone thanks for sharing this idea, and letting us know the changes that matter most for you. Currently they are available at the start of the following income tax year. We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. You can share this with your friends and colleagues who also want to see this feature. We will continue monitoring this space for traction.

  4. Currently, when mapping the chart of accounts from your financial statements in Xero Blue to the tax return labels in XPM, you can only map to labels in the business schedule section of the return.

This means that accounts relating to other tax labels, such as rental property schedules, or other deductions, must be noted as "do not import", and then entered manually.

It would be great if there was the ability to map these accounts, in addition to those relating to the business schedule, as it would lead to further efficiency gains for accountants using Xero's suite of products.

Hi community, thanks for engaging with this idea! It’s already gaining strong traction, and we can see how important this is to many of you.

We understand the value of being able to map general ledger accounts directly to all tax return schedules in Xero Tax, not just the business schedule. This improvement would go a long way in streamlining tax workflows, increasing efficiency, and reducing the risk of manual entry errors.

The idea is now in the Gaining Support stage. Your continued votes and comments help highlight its importance and guide our product team's priorities.

  5. It would be great to be able to customise if the fields are mandatory or not for new client setups. This would allow us to ensure that the fields we need setup are being setup by the admin team.

Thanks for sharing this idea and explaining the value it could bring to your practice.

We appreciate you taking the time to help us understand the benefit of being able to choose which fields are mandatory on the client profile in Practice Manager, especially where practices need more consistency in the information collected for different client types and workflows.

We’re moving this idea to Gaining Support so we can continue to track interest and better understand how this would help practices in day-to-day use. If this capability would improve your workflow, please add your vote and share more detail about which fields you’d want to make mandatory and why.

Your feedback helps our team understand the problem and shape future improvements.

  6. Would be very beneficial to be able to run a report listing all clients who have outstanding transfers and refunds for a period (and export it). We need to be proactive and contact the IRD before they refund the client instead of actioning a transfer as requested. In APS we could pick up any mismatch early and were able to contact the IRD or the client and rectify quickly.

  7. Add a note function to each account. Similar to the queries button but just for general notes about what's in the account that doesn't need a resolution. This would be helpful near the account rather then just at the start in the job note section as it would allow quick access for others to see the note when looking at the specific account.

  8. Would be great if we could update fields in one go for multiple entities across a group (similar to how the address field allows you to). For example, the Partner, Manager, Class, etc is generally the same across the group (how we use it), so it would be good if we could update these sections for everyone in the group in one go (even if we need to access one of the entity profiles, and from there it asks if we want to update the other entities as well).

  9. P&L - Tracking categories (cost centres) in rows and analized per periods (in columns) . When I run this report on xero, it shows me in the same column (period and cost centre), the cost centre should be displayed in rows. Really annoying that this option does not work properly as its impossible to analyse anything.

  10. In Tax Statements, under Transfers tab: the "auto mark as complete" needs to happen by both amount and date. So need the ability to set the effective date for the transfer to occur, therefore if IRD does something different we are alerted.

Currently if transfer is the same $ value or more, then Xero automatically marks as complete, this should not occur. If the $ is more then the transfer has not gone as expected and we need to be alerted to this.

For transfers that IRD does that are higher than expected we need to be able to set…

Thanks for supporting this idea, everyone.

While we know this isn't a perfect solution, the current workaround is to manually track these transfers and we have some help on doing this within Xero Central.

While we understand the desire for improvements to this process, we want to be upfront that this isn't in our current roadmap.

As you may have heard from our recent Xerocon announcements there are lots of exciting improvements coming within the Practice space over the coming months that we our teams are developing for.

While we will move the idea to Not in pipeline, should there be any change around this we will be sure to share with you here.

  11. Currently if a tax letter email fails to send, for whatever reason, there is no email notification it failed to send. The system really needs to be enhanced so the person who sent the tax letter from XPM gets an email notification that the tax letter failed to send to that email address. Currently it is just blind faith that all letters are sent which is clearly not good.

Hi everyone, we appreciate the continued contributions here and while this is something our team may look at further in the future we want to be upfront that it's not currently on the roadmap.

We'll be keeping a close track on the interest this further build here and be sure to share further updates if it is revisited.

Thank you for sharing and engaging with us on this here in Product Ideas.

  12. The ability to look up client by entering their client code. Currently we have to go to groups and find the client belonging to the group. Our admin system is based on client codes and it would make it easier having the client code look up option.

  13. In XPM at the moment a Client is either "Active" or "Archived". The relationships function could be extremely powerful if we have the ability to add a "non client" in order to use them to define a relationship. For example, at the moment we can only add directors to a company where the directors are also clients. For us it means that our relationships are on average only 50% complete as on average only 50% of the related parties are also clients with us.

We do not want to add these instances as full clients with us because it will…

  14. Is there an easy way to create/run reports tailored specifically for charities or is it just me that I am finding it difficult to find ? I've got the charity set up as a non-for-profit organisation which doesn't seem to make much difference at all.
It's disappointed to see Xero doesn't have any reports templates for charities.
Executive report cannot be overtype as needed - It's not possible to change "Profit (Loss)" line within profitability to Surplus/Deficit.

Regarding Current Year Earnings, it isn't currently possible to rename this to current year funds, or to code manual journals from this to…

  15. Following the XPM updates in November and December 2025, on the client screen in XPM, the contacts section no longer displays a contact’s mobile or phone number. Only the name and email address are visible, which means you must open each contact to check whether a phone number is recorded. Previously, having the phone number visible on the main screen made it much quicker to assess contact details at a glance.

Restoring the display of mobile and phone numbers in the contacts area would improve usability and avoid unnecessary extra clicks when a number is not listed.

    Hi Mireille,

Thank you for the detailed feedback regarding the recent XPM updates.

I’ve moved this into Gaining Support. I can definitely see how the removal of those phone number columns has added extra steps to your workflow. While the recent design updates aimed for a cleaner look, "at a glance" information is vital for busy practices.

A quick tip for now: If you need to see phone numbers across your client list without clicking into each one, you can customise your main list view:

    1. Go to Clients > All Clients.
    2. Click the Columns button on the right.
    3. Tick Phone and Mobile. This will surface those numbers in your main list view so you don't have to drill into each record.

I’ve updated the title to "XPM - Suggestion to display contact phone numbers on the Client details screen" to help other practice users who are feeling…

Thanks for your feedback on bulk PDF export for Classic Workpapers. We appreciate you letting us know the changes that matter most for you.

We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

  17. Recent change in XPM has moved the old/archived jobs and invoices to a different tab. I prefer the old layout where you can see the current and old jobs all in one place/screen.

The archived or old jobs have been moved to a different tab which means you cannot see both open and closed jobs at the same time. We rely on this when preparing annual accounts and tax returns because we often review all invoices or jobs for a full financial year, we hardly ever are only looking at the open jobs or invoices. The issue is we can…

Hi everyone, upon further deep diving into the discussion raised here we are going to re-open this idea. We appreciate how being able to see both active and archived Jobs within a Client is useful to some practices workflows. We will be sure to share if there are any plans made around this with you here. Thanks

  18. Very disappointed to hear that you haven't considered how the new reporting standards for Tier 3 entities is going to effect the reporting templates i.e. the requirement to split grants into multiple sub-categories, which is only one area of the new reporting standards that needs to be expanded.
Would you be able to make this a high priority for the product team and provide a reasonable timeframe as to when this will be considered for further development as obviously we need to meet our obligations and your reporting mapping is no longer going to make this easy for us given…

Hi community, thanks so much for the great feedback so far. The changes to Tier 3 reporting standards - especially around grant categorisation are clearly important, and it’s great to see this idea gaining momentum quickly.

This request is now in the Gaining Support stage, so it’s on our radar for further consideration. If you’re using Tier 3 reporting, we’d love to hear more about what specific features or improvements would help you most. Your input really helps guide the product team’s priorities.

Please keep the votes and comments coming. We’ll be sure to share updates here as we learn more. Thanks again for being part of the conversation!

  19. Xero tax software needs to be amended so that a provisional tax payment requested based on the previous year plus 10% shows up as the first installment of provisional tax due in the xero tax return even though the client hasn't made the payment but is required to have paid by the 1st provisional tax date. At present shows as 0.00 which is incorrect based on the inland revenue rules. So at present have to copy the tax return to a pdf export to word and then manually amended the tax return to show the correct tax payment that was…

Hi everyone, sorry we've not engaged here sooner. We want to share an update to provide some detail here.

Currently, if no payment is made on the first provisional date, then the amount owing moves to the second provisional date. The payment schedule is optimised to show payments in the future and will not reflect missed payments - There are no plans to make a change to how the payment schedule works.

On this basis, if you feel the schedule is incorrect we highly encourage you connect with our Xero Support team via Xero Central so we can take a closer look to investigate based on your specific case. Thanks
