Just Ask Xero(JAX) - Ability to turn off (after it goes live)
Today, I received an email from Xero, enthusing about the upcoming feature called JAX "Just Ask Xero". Apparently, this is a generative AI assistant.
Once it goes live, I will want to know how to turn it off. I will never use it - if I need help creating an invoice, there's a help file for that, and checking an AI's work takes as long or longer than just doing it myself in the first place - and see no reason to waste processing resources on something I will never use. Ensuring efficient use of processing resources is also critical for people who are using Xero in internet black spots (most of Australia outside metro areas and off national highways) or in times of network congestion.

Hi everyone, we appreciate your engagement with us about Just Ask Xero(JAX) and concerns shared on the data this model uses.
To confirm the LLMs are not trained using any Xero data. The AI behind JAX uses LLMs available from commercial vendors like Microsoft, Google and Amazon, (we have commercial agreements that prevent them from training their models with our customers data), as well as proprietary technology, JAX Assure, that works in concert to support accuracy and security.
JAX is currently in beta - Once your organisation is invited to opt-in to the beta, you can trigger the opt-in buy sending JAX a message in the pop-up window of your dashboard.
However, if you’re not interested in using JAX, don’t send a message, and the assistant won’t be activated. You can also dismiss the pop-up using the 'x' in the top right corner. You'll be prompted once more and can dismiss it in the same way, after which you won't be prompted to try JAX again.
If you've already sent JAX a message and would like to opt-out of the beta you can do so by clicking the 'More features' button in JAX where you'll see an option to 'Opt-out'.

Wow, I am so unimpressed with this. Working on AI, which nobody needs for their accounting program instead of fixing issues we have been asking for, for YEARS.
I wont use it. It is not needed and I do not give Xero permission to use any of my business data for your Ai training.

@Xero If Jax, as Kathy has stated below, is supposed to learn from what I do, then that means I'm teaching it.
Seeing as I get paid to teach our staff, I don't train anyone or anything for free.
If you want to me to train your AI then you can pay me a consulting fee and I'll happily put in the time to do so. Until then, you can keep it the **** away from my business.

@Kat - I don't see the point of it as you can ask the help section etc if you need answers. I ignore it but I dislike seeing it sitting in a banner across my screen.
I wouldn't trust it to do an invoice or anything else, they claim it learns from what you do but I've also seen other comments about it.Just another useless thing that they've added to the system. They should be concentrating on fixing all the problems with new invoicing and all the other issues first especially ones that have been requested for several years and they've just ignored or given their generic answers to everything.

I don't want JAX, I didn't ask for it, I will never use it. How can you legally even integrate this into Xero without an opprtunity to opt out?
Besides all the obvious reasons I don't want AI anywhere near my data, I don't want to add to the climate nightmare by using AI.
Doesn't anyone care about how bad this is for the environment? AI and its computers and data centres use an enormous amount of electricity. Which makes our electricity more expensive, so not only are we ripped off by Xero's extreme prices, we now have to pay more for our own electricity because Xero decided we need JAX. Which we don't.
Seriously we were much, much better off before someone thought it would be a good idea to develop AI. -

Xero just when I think you couldn't get any worse, now you add this banddwidth burning waste of space!!!! Looks like I will be finding another platform. So sick of the changes Xero thinks we need forced upon us :(
YOU DO NOT HAVE MY PERMISSION FOR USING ANY OF MY DATA FOR THIS TRAINING PURPOSE AND I EXPECT TO BE GIVEN THE OPTION TO TURN OFF JAX.

Yes, 100%. This is just jumping on the AI bandwagon and does not add anything useful. It simple uses up more bandwidth and browser processing power, slowing everything else down. I am not remotely interested in this 'feature' and want to disable it globally for my organisation.

We don't and won't ever use JAX, and we don't even want the icon on the screen. Please provide the option to remove it completely.

Kelly and the team at XERO
Can you please remove JAX or at least give customers the option to turn it off or remove it themselves.
I don't want it. I never asked for it, along with a lot of your customer base. This AI Junk you have added is unnecessary, unwanted, unwelcomed and is making myself and others I have spoken to start looking for another platform.
XERO, I DO NOT GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO USE ANY OF MY DATA LET ALONE BUSINESS DATA AS TRAINING MATERIAL FOR YOUR AI SYSTEMS

Hello Kelly,
We don't want the option of JAX We don't want it to even be on the screen anywhere. No JAX anywhere in Xero. Remove the function completely.

Jon Dixon commented
You need to re-focus on your customers, not on introducing fuctionality which your developers think is clever. I do not want an AI assistant, so give me the functionality to remove it from my Xero experience. Do the same for all other functionality which may not be relevant to all users.
YOU DO NOT HAVE MY PERMISSION FOR USING ANY OF MY DATA FOR THIS TRAINING PURPOSE AND I EXPECT TO BE GIVEN THE OPTION TO TURN OFF JAX.

Very disappointed Xero has gone down this route at all. I think customers should have had more consultation before JAX was trialled. I don't want it and I resent being pushed it by Xero.

features like these that I don't want, need or ask for make me reconsider if Xero is even right for me anymore.
Add-ons are obviously fine and welcomed but leave the core accounting alone and keep it cost effective because it's rapidly becoming expensive and you'll use shite like JAX as a justification.

Can you please stop these incessant pop ups? Or give us a drop down to get rid of it - XERO usually loves a click and drop down

Eric Killian commented
Need an option to turn off JAX Globally for all of our clients and team members. Having each of us opt in, in order to opt out, and still having incessant pop ups is not okay.

Linda Carlos commented
Don't want JAX don't need JAX, just concentrate on sorting out the major issues you have created in New Invoicing.

Elizabeth Mpilias commented
@Kelly That is an absolute LIE, I did not opt in to JAX and I cannot disable it popping up all over the place. What an absolute farce. Opting out does not make it go away
You can't fix basic things like invoicing and bills that used to work just fine and dandy still you started tinkering with it, now it's a broke joke.
JAX is just another edition in the Xero Clown Show

Paul Erasmus commented
This is a lie, JAX was active in our Xero without prior notice, without our approval and We don't have control over the LLM's OR the agreements you have with other service providers. Remove AI from our Xero in full (no option to even chose to opt in or out) nothing to see or to do here.

Shane Robins commented
Take this JAX rubbish OFF of my UI. I DID NOT ASK FOR IT. I DO NOT WANT AI in my system. I DO NOT AUTHORISE Xero to install AI into account.
-
Brett Derricott commented
Xero, please give us the ability to completely disable/remove JAX at the organization level. Allowing any user to opt-in for our organization is unacceptable.
