New Invoicing - Reduce number of steps and clicks
New invoicing has introduced more clicks, taps, steps at almost every level.
Please remove the added friction as it increases processing time.
The "new invoicing" messages are full of comments regarding where these pressure points have been added.
We are paid subscribers, and beta testing/seeking feedback is wonderful, but being forced onto an inferior model is.. suboptimal.

Hi community, we value there are many different aspects within new invoicing where our invoicing users can see small changes to flows and actions could make a big difference to your workflow and experience.
I can assure you we’re engaged, we’re listening and we’re taking all your feedback into consideration as we keep building on new invoicing.
While we’ll continue to keep you updated on specific releases that relate to things that’ve been mentioned in this idea, our teams have also begun some research to get a deepened sense of our invoicing users for future improvements. We’d like to connect with you all in this idea, and invite you to share further feedback through our survey. Your insights will be invaluable to the team as they continue to plan and prioritise in this space.

Without bombarding their socials with your complaints Xero won't fix anything... they have proven they don't care at all about current customers. Their focus is on retaining new customers.
Take to social media, hope to see you there!

I really wish you would listen to your customers. The new invoicing is awful and you have how many pages of feedback giving you the examples of what your customers don't like about it especially as the current version works very well.
You are loosing trust as we get responses like this one from Bridget Snelling to me over LinkedIn when I contacted her to please ask her to retain Classic until the new Invoicing is easier to use and less time consuming.Hi Rachel, thanks for your feedback. The switch from classic invoicing to new invoicing is a necessary step we're taking to improve your overall experience - and I can assure you it will get better! Based on customer feedback like yours, we've introduced 30 product updates in the past year, and we’ll keep making improvements. The key point being that we'll be adding features that simply weren’t possible before - creating a better and more efficient experience. We appreciate you bearing with us over the transition!

If classic invoicing is retired on the 27th without new invoicing being fixed (ie the features we need from old invoice work in new) then i'm leaving and taking my orgs somewhere else (that will be 4 orgs)

Classic invoicing works. New invoices does not. I think there is enough evidence of all the things wrong with the new version without me repeating everything that is wrong. Please do not retire classic until the new is as good as the classic and offers the same flexibility. Thank you

I thought I would try new invoicing again before the shutoff to see if it matched Classic invoice functionality but not yet. So mouse heavy. Too many clicks, too many tabs. Buttons hidden under drop down menus.
Most annoyingly there is no "Focus" on the "Contact" field when you "Save and Add Another".
The popup of last invoice entered hovers for less than 10 seconds. (In Classic it was at the top of the page)
Autosave causes data entry issues (missing numbers or values)
The History is a mess of "Edit"s
Email invoices sent from New Invoicing have a different format and don't use my templates. Looks like a demand for money now. Can't set Organisation / Trading name if more than one business.
Does anyone on your team actually have any lived experience of entering invoices into Xero?
Classic invoicing is still superior

@Kathy Skinner - " don't use shortcut keys so no use to me. I tried the new invoicing layout and still hate it, still too much white space - should be nice and compact like classic, and still too many clicks to do anything."
It seems that the UI team haven't grasped that what Apple/Satchi/et al aggrandize as great design for *advertising* doesn't make a great UI for productive work, and they seem to have completely missed that invoicing is a core tenet of an accounting system.
I agree about the copious, useless whitespace. "Here's a tiny view of an uploaded invoice that you can't read, because we wasted 3/4 of the page with padded whitespace. We don't care that its unusable, please vote for us in this year's design awards. We like Apple." -

I'd like to see a commitment from Xero to not delete Classic invoicing until New invoicing has at least caught up with Classic in terms of features.
I'm looking at alternatives in case the enshitification continues. -

I agree with Charlotte. Also when adding product items you type the item number and it's not quick enough to bring up the details and this annoying new item screen pops up.
The autosave it's a pain, you don't have the cancel button anymore and if you want to cancel the invoice you need to go to drafts and delete it.
There are a lot of things to improve in Xero but invoicing is not one of them so I don't get why you are changing something that works.

Am finding New Invoicing very slow and lagging.
When opening a draft invoice and removing a line it then takes ages to update the total and actually let me save it. Very frustrating and something that was not an issue in Classic.
I need to be able to turn off auto save, it is creating duplications and causing it to be slow at responding to changes.
Need to be able to select a default option for the approve button, approve and e-mail is not applicable to 95% of clients.
The keyboard work around is ok, but still not ideal.
Being able to enter payment details at the bottom needs to be put back, this was simple and it worked, there is no need for it to be anywhere else.
We need this fixed and working before Classic is turned off. -

My main shortcut for Date Entry was mousewheel - which still doesnt work
Files attachment still has the tiny box - so still doesnt work like you said
Invoice number replacement still doesnt work
Upload file button is on different sides on some screens for no reason
Need I go on?
Fix this **** or let us keep Classic -

Could you please update us on whether Xero plans to have Xero-to-Xero sending available in New Invoicing, as it is in Classic? This is a very useful feature, which we use daily for intergroup invoices.
And no, e-Invoicing does not solve the problem, as some of our Xero companies are registered as one (with one business number) and are separated in Xero only for internal purposes. I pay you double the subscription for each of them and expect better value for the payment, especially as your software has become increasingly difficult to use.

Thank you for posting your comment about random account numbers. I noticed it as well! I guess it is connected to autosave problem. Autosave interrupts the workflow. For example, if you are typing 458 and after you hit 5 the autosave is saving "8" won't be recognised and Xero will input 450 instead.
I hope the horrible autosave will be optional.

Can we have the "Approve" button back? We don't need to email every invoice - can you just give us two buttons - it would keep customers happy & I'm guessing be pretty easy to create.

I used to love xero. I told everyone I could about it. now I actually have come to hate parts of it. It's tech driven not customer centric. I would switch in a second if I heard of a better one, but I'm too busy to look and listen. My loss.. Plus the owner bought himself a 60million dollar home. Go figure. The new version is forced on us and i really HATE it. Everything takes longer. Its not logical. Let us use both.

OK, the CTRL-ALT-A shortcut to approve rather than clicking the "approve and email" button is a good start.
The CTRL-ALT-Y shortcut to then record a payment is also a good start, but the record payment pop up doesn't allow for typing to select the date/account/etc, so it's still way slower than classic invoicing
It would also be useful to have hints on the page for the shortcuts, I never knew about those until following the link from Kelly's Jan 30th update -
Justine Quarrell commented
Have you been able to fix the auto fill of the account code which selects random account codes.
-
Jisel Fernandez commented
Sorry @Kelly, but so far all the changes in the new invoicing do not improve the workflow. There are more unnecessary clicks, and the buttons have been moved around to less efficient places.
What is the point of having to click a button to add payment when it was easy to have it at the bottom of the invoice? It is not an improvement

@KellyMunro, there are 27 days until you force us to use the new invoicing layout and yet you are still claiming to be updating it to be more like the system that we want. How crazy is that. 7 years in the making and it's still an abomination. Classic works so why not allow us to continue with Classic? You really are not listening to your clients. All I can say is thank goodness I'm leaving my current employer today and when I start looking for a new job in a couple of months one of the questions I will be asking is what accounting system they use. If it's Xero I won't even go for an interview, Xero is that bad now - you are just not listening to us.

I don't use shortcut keys so no use to me. I tried the new invoicing layout and still hate it, still too much white space - should be nice and compact like classic, and still too many clicks to do anything.
I checked the history for this one invoice and instead of 3 - 4 lines for the initial invoice in history I have 11 lines just to do one invoice. Every box clicked is reported as edited - don't need all that extra, I don't need to know I edited the reference change from to, or the due date changed unless I actually change the date at some point, how many lines are we going to end up if we have to go back in and edit something again later on.
This should be exactly the same as in classic, what a pain if I ever have to use this in future to prove who an invoice was sent to as they don't need to see all that as I PDF the history.Seriously you have taken Xero backwards and still overlooking what people are actually saying and going ahead with things that add additional time to busy workloads already.
I actually dread year end work now given a lot of my invoices are issued at year end for the following year and having to use new invoicing is going to be a nightmare.

Also ... can we bring back sending invoices from our own email address rather than the @xero address? Those continue to get lost in people's spam folders
