  1. Although you can save a custom Account Transactions report as the new default report, Xero still displays the original default Account Transactions columns if you drill down to account activity from Balance Sheet or Income Statement.
This currently requires re-adjusting the column settings every time.

Thanks for signalling your interest and sharing with us through this idea, team.

We understand why you'd like a setting for defaults when you drill down through the Account Transactions report. This is something our reporting product team have taken a closer look at, however the solution isn't a simple change and we want to be upfront that at this stage we don't have any plans for. We will share if there are any updates here.

  2. Projects - Would be terrific if we could produce a report based on employee projects, for example to be able to see what staff currently have on, the $$ they have quoted for a period of time etc.

  3. Can you please add balances to the edit layout function so we can see what we are mapping or where things have automapped? I often need to open the financials in a separate tab while editing the layout because I can't see the balances and it would be nice if I didn't have to do that.

  4. Ability to change the file name when exporting reports

When exporting reports, it defaults to Company name_Report Name.pdf. We have a format of naming files in our business which does not match the default format. It would be simpler to be able to change the default file exporting system so that it more closely fits our standards, saving time. This could be added into the company settings. Options include: Report should say: Text [placeholder] Text [placeholder], and "include or exclude underscore".
Options for placeholders include date printed, company name, report name, etc.

  5. GST Reconciliation report to work using the Simpler BAS option. It doesn't seem to pull anything that's already been filed/finalised through using this report

  6. SureIy this would be a no brainer??

I'd like an option to download PDFs with a password automatically added.

The password could be added in the company setting pages with the option to download "Protected PDF" when you print a report.

This feature seems so simple to create and i'm not sure why it hasn't been thought of.

This would also save us having to do this manually with every report sent to a client.

Please set this up at it would be a great option for bookkeepers and accountants.

  8. People here in PH are starting to use Xero and I think many more will use it too if you create reports that are required by our Tax Authority such as:

    Sales Journal
    Purchase Journal
    Cash Receipts Journal
    Cash Disbursements Journal

Most of our clients are asking for this. I really hope you will be able to implement this.

Hi everyone, just wanting to highlight that as Caroline has suggested, it is likely the Account Transactions reports in Xero could be used to create the reports required. However, this depends on what information you require each report to contain.

If anyone is able to reply with more specific details on whether any information is unable to be obtained via the account transaction report this will help our product team better understand what's needed.

  9. Placeholders are really useful in repeating manual journal entry - could we please have them in regular manual journals?

Oftentimes it will be necessary to repeat a series of manual entries when realising income in advance as revenue however the amounts will vary so a manual journal is required for each instance.

Being able to have [Month] etc in the narration would make it much faster to populate each entry. [Example: "Revenue realised in [Month]"

  10. Sometimes an entity will de-register for GST because they are no longer required to file, then circumstances change and they re-register. Currently in Xero when you re-register Xero creates all the prior period GST returns for when the client was deregistered. You then have to manually delete all the prior draft returns.

Would be great if you could have an option to choose the new start date for GST.

    thanks!

  11. Hi,
Something that would be very helpful as an accountant, is the ability to run a report for a given date which shows all the transactions where the VAT was claimed/paid on a later return. I know that the VAT reconciliation report doesn't work with MTD.
Happy to discuss to help with this.

Hi everyone, we appreciate why you’d like a report that provides visibility of VAT late claims to streamline your reconciliation processes, especially around year-end and for monthly VAT returns.

Currently, it's possible to use the Account Transactions report to manually reconcile against filed VAT returns, although we get the desire for a more automated solution.

This isn’t on the team’s roadmap at present, however this is something we'll continue to consider how we accommodate these needs in future planning for tax reports in Xero. I'll be sure to let you know if there is any movement to share, here.

  12. Per the attached screenshot, we are utilising tracking categories to track income and expenditure for two branches of a business with one ABN. Most of the reports can be filtered between tracking categories. I can see no reason that the GST reports should not be able to be filtered by tracking category, or even the Activity Statement report. We should be able to expect this filtering for ABN branches.

  15. Most of our clients (and I imagine many small businesses in the U.S.) use a hybrid reporting basis. Basically, short term assets and liabilities are recorded using the cash basis while long term assets and liabilities are recorded using the accrual basis.
Therefore, for example, this will result in sales being recorded when cash received but depreciation and amortization expense are recorded monthly. This method of reporting also results in the accounting basis being more similar to tax basis.

Xero actually has a webpage describing this (https://www.xero.com/us/guides/cash-vs-accrual-accounting) but states "And if you run a hybrid accounting system, smart…

  16. Would like a report showing a list of bank account number changes. This would show original bank account number, new bank account number, contact's name, date the bank account number was amended and who amended the bank account number and to be able to print this as a pdf. This would be of great benefit because of fraud and also our Auditor has asked if we can produce a list of bank account number changes for a selected period.

Hi everyone, while we don't have a direct report for this, some changes we've made to History & Notes in Xero will help in achieving what you're in need of here.

You can run the History & Notes, filtering by Type = Contact and typing 'Bank account number' in the Search to just view results for this action.

If needed you'll be able to export your results to PDF or Excel.

Though the contact name doesn't show on screen, you can right click on the Contact in the report to open the contact's record in a new browser tab, that allows you to inspect details without navigating away from your History & Notes results.

  17. Ability to transfer customised reports between practices or other businesses. Currently this is not possible so if a client changes accounting practices then reports do not follow. This is expensive for the client for reports to be redone and totally unnecessary given that all the formatting necessary already exists on another system.

Hi community, thanks for all the energy and great conversation on this idea. We recognise the passion for making reporting in Xero better for your needs.

Wee understand that rebuilding report templates for each individual client or entity is time-consuming, and the current option of using Report Templates in Xero HQ mapping of the chart of accounts can be tricky to apply to different client files. However, we want to front foot that enabling the ability to transfer reports across practices or organisations isn't planned in the near term.

We'll continue to review and consider this idea in the longer term and if this work is picked up will be more than happy to share an update with you all, here.

  18. Similar to other "snapshots" available on the Dashboard, for any VAT registered business it is important to know liabilities at the click of a button. Please can Xero support look into an "add-on" for VAT liability total shown on the dashboard

Hi community, we recognise it's been some time since our last update on this idea and apologise for the delay in coming back here.

After our last post, priorities for the team did pivot and work for showing current VAT liability was put on hold.

While not actively underway atm, we have intentions of surfacing an organisation's VAT liability total on the dashboard on our longer terms roadmap. While we'll move this idea to Accepted for now, as soon as there is movement we'll be back to update you again. Thanks

  19. Not sure this is really part of Xero HQ - but it would be really useful to be able to drill down into the unfiled VAT section on the VAT reconciliation report.

  20. GST - where an entity trades in different tax jurisdictions, allow the file to create the ability to manage GST for different countries (different GST codes) in separate GST accounts and not all consolidated into one GST account.
eg if an entity trades in Australia and New Zealand, you can have an Australian GST account and a NZ GST account to make reconciliation and completion of BAS easier.
