Email Settings - Specify date/time to send transactions
Ability to specify date/time when users’ want to send emails from Xero.
Purpose: So clients/customers can receive the email during the working hours and not at random time.
Thanks so much for your enthusiasm here, everyone. We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting this release.
The ability to schedule the day and time a one-off invoice is sent is now live for all users. 🥳
Currently, this feature is only available when sending individual invoices.
We absolutely understand the interest in extending this type of functionality to other features like; repeating invoices, invoice reminders, statements and payslips. This will be a consideration for our teams as they continue to develop across features and we have some ideas I've linked below that I'd recommend joining so we can better gauge demand and ensure you hear updates for each.
- Repeating Invoices - Schedule a specific time for repeating invoices to be generated and sent
- Invoice reminders - Custom date and time
- Customer statements - Ability to auto email Statements to customers
- UK Payroll - Set time and day when scheduling payslips
- NZ Payroll - Automatically email payslips
- AU Payroll - Automatically email payslips
For API-related requests, the best place to raise these is in our Xero Developer Ideas forum. I wasn’t able to see an existing idea for this there, so please feel free to submit one.
If you have other suggestions for how this feature could be improved, we’d love for you to raise them as new ideas, so our teams can consider them and keep you updated there.
Thanks again for your feedback and for continuing to share your ideas with us.

Recurring invoices does not allow for each to be unique which this would resolve.

The ability to schedule send invoices would be incredibly useful. This would assist with managing processes when staff are on leave as well as ensuring continuity of cash flow as invoices can be forward-dated and sent, ensuring they are not forgotten.
Judging by the community it is a very desirable feature: https://central.xero.com/s/question/0D53m00005lHMyjCAG/can-you-schedule-the-sending-of-an-invoice

Invoice Reminders. They are automatically set by xero to be sent out between 4am and 8am. We have had complaints from clients receiving them as early as 2am in the morning which is very unprofessional. I would recommend xero schedule them during business hours or provide a function that we can nominate a time slot for them to be sent.

@Geoff Schmidt in your scenario (prep payroll on Friday for payment on Monday) it's a legal requirement under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cwth) that pay slips be sent within one working day of pay day, so technically sending the pay slips on the Friday would be legal (assuming a Monday to Friday working week). If you prepped payroll on Friday for payment on Tuesday, however, it would not be legal (technically) to send pay slips on the day that payroll was prepared.

Yes, seriously thinking of moving to Quickbooks as well.
The aged statements is another very useful feature that to have I have to use a paid app. It's a disgrace. -

I should not subscribe to the comments on this issue (or any other) as it just gets me angry. Xero NEVER actually implements any to the suggestions. Years ago I thought that taking the time to provide customer feedback was worth my time. Then after a few years of no response or comments such as "we are putting all our effort into Single Touch Payroll" I realised Xero is hopeless in doing anything for it's customers other than putting up their charges.

I am the director of a web application development company and we get feature requests for our software which would make small parts of the systems a whole heap better. Often though, these requests are made without an understanding of what it would take to incorporate them into the software or of other more important areas that we need to work on. We use Xero but we're not affiliated with them in any way. They are a good company and theirs is a good platform. While they might not be working on this exact feature at this precise moment, I'm sure that they are working on other areas of the software for the overall good of the product and for their client base. No software is perfect, and MYOB and QuickBooks will no doubt also have feature requests which some of their customer base are frustrated at not having had implemented yet either. Hang in there, I'm sure this will come.

9 years on and still not done. Xero is really pathetic. What's the point of having this community forum to add ideas if they don't get actioned.

Both, myob and quickboooks has this feature.
I'll discuss with my accountant if it is possible to switch.
This is an easy and quick work, still not sure why xero is ignoring it. -

Does anyone know if MYOB offers this feature?

Xero's price keeps going up, but, like Robin, I too haven't seen Xero add anything of value. UI redesign? Meh. I don't care. The old interface was completely fine. But a feature like this would ACTUALLY be of value. What exactly are the dev team doing? Why does the price keep increasing?
I am also seriously considering jumping ship. It's getting to the point where I can no longer justify the cost.
I don't actually even know why I'm posting here. These threads have made no difference to the product...

Been waiting for this and so many other valuable features for so long. Sick of waiting and ready to leave.

Been asking for this for years. As a small business who does my own invoicing, having to manually send out for invoices adds way more admin than I can handle and I'm tired of waiting for a very basic feature to even be considered by Xero instead of being released. I honestly can't say that in 5 years of using the software, you've released any new features of value to me.
No more waiting. I've cancelled my subscription and moved onto another solution.
I'm sure I'm not the only customer you're losing because of the lack of responsiveness to what your customers need.

This would be useful for payslips out of payroll. For example, you run payroll on a Friday but the pay week ends Sunday and tyhe payment is made Monday. It would be good to schedule the payslips email to be sent on the Monday.

It would be really useful if you could schedule the approval and sending of a one off manually created invoice. For example I have just created one now that is dated 6 June and wants sending on that day so I would love to be able to schedule this to do it automatically on 6 June.

This would be super helpful. I'm the only one in our company who sends invoices so none are sent when I'm holiday. I can't send them early so it would be great to schedule sending at a later date. Thanks

Is it possible to put in a development request to have the time the invoice reminders go out to between 7-9am in the timezone of the organisation? We have now had multiple complaints from clients.
With it being standard practice for staff to have email address on phones, they are saying they are being woken up from the many email reminders at 4-5am coming through on their phones.
One of our customer gets over 10 invoices per day so that is a lot of reminders each morning. Unfortunately, the customer is an on-call mechanic so turning his phone onto silent is not a suitable resolution

This would be super beneficial also for sending out invoices that are future dated. Having future dated invoices in can help forecast cash better. Without the scheduling email function, I have to keep the invoices as drafts because I need to know which ones still need to be emailed on the day they are dated.

Try trimly.app which has this feature inbuilt to send within working hours

https://trimly.app/ sends invoices at 9am local time and on repeating invoice schedules, individual invoices can have the date changed so they're not dated on the weekend too.
Heaps of other things that we're building in here too like forecast invoicing from the repeating invoice schedules
