Hi team, thanks again for your feedback on this here. Just to clarify the change, while the modal has been updated the payment method options shown are the same as previous. Just rather than making you select there is a preset default for online bill payment.
If you prefer manual payments you just need to click on the 'Continue with manual payment' to proceed.
With focus on further improving and expanding online bill payment methods and helping our customers stay on top of cashflows, it'd be great to better understand the reasons why online bill payments don't suit your business needs here.

Hi everyone, I want to assure you your voice is heard here and feedback is being shared back with our product teams.
We understand the desire to get this idea moving along and as mentioned in our last update we know this is an area that more controls and permissions would be most beneficial to our customers.
We’d like to share progress that we’re making for banking permissions - Work to provide more controls of sensitive banking information has started and will initially include the ability to restrict users from seeing sensitive banking information such as; account balances, bank transactions, and financial summaries.
We know this doesn’t relieve all pain points of this idea - It’ll be the first phase, a stepping stone of sorts in the development of per-bank controls.
As development continues we’ll share further updates as soon as they’re available with you all here.
Thank you for…

Hi everyone, thanks so much for sharing your comments and support for this idea. We really get why you'd like a central report, so you can check each customer's payment history just to see who's paying late.
Currently as mentioned in the discussion here, you can see a customer's average days to pay on their individual contact record, but we know this isn't the same as having a single report for all your customers.
While we can see there's a lot of interest in this, it's not on our current roadmap for development. Community members will still be able to vote - So we'll continue to keep a close eye here and will let you know if anything changes.

I can't imagine this would be very hard to do at all, nor very time consuming. Considering that Xero is already calculating it and posting it on the contacts page, is it really that much of a stretch to add this to the suite of reports already available?
A status update would be welcome please Xero.

Hey everyone, thank you for all your feedback. We’re on a long journey to provide more granular access and controls within Xero features that our customers need.
As you may have seen in some of our recent updates across other user roles ideas we’re currently in the process of adding more permissions within Reporting and Inventory. Further to this our research has highlighted Payroll and Banking as areas that more controls are most needed, and are on our agenda as we continue to develop permissions and access to features.
Your feedback here and through direct engagements with our teams have been extremely insightful, and we appreciate all your inputs.
I'll continue to provide updates on the development of roles for features as we progress.

Hey everyone, we've been following the conversation closely and we want to acknowledge how important this is for many of you.
Atm, we’re on a long journey to provide more controls within Xero features that our customers need. Being such a broad idea that touches many areas of our platform, we’d like to encourage adding your votes to specific user permissions that matter most to you, such as:
- Bank Accounts: For more control over who can see bank account balances and access specific accounts, please see the idea here: User Role - Restrict access to individual bank accounts
- Sales and Invoicing: If you’d like to see changes to permissions around sales reporting and editing invoice templates, you can follow that conversation here: User roles: Restrict access to Invoice Settings
- Reports: To have your say on restricting access to specific reports, the relevant idea is here: User permissions - Assign user…

Just wanted to add my thoughts on here to the many that have taken the time already to provide feedback.
The level of flexibility in this area is seriously behind
i) customer expectations/requirements and
ii) Xero's competitorsIn my example, I have a colleague who reconciles customer and supplier payments. This is a key area of her role, which she carries out to a high standard. However, with permissions settings as they currently stand, she also has access to other bank payments such as staff wages/bonuses/petty cash claims etc which are private and confidential.
My only option as it stands is to reduce her user rights, but by doing this I would be removing access to the very things she needs to do her role. It's an impossible situation.
In my opinion, Xero would do very well to allocate resources looking at it's competition to understand how they can roll out greater depth to the user rights/access options like for example Quickbooks.

The option to exclude someone's ability to see the bank balance should be a given in any level of user permissions.

Like many who have commented before, our requirement would be for users to be able to process purchase and sales ledger invoices without being able to see bank account details.

Hi community, we acknowledge the strong feelings in this idea and why you need a feature to flag bills directly within Xero. We really appreciate all your feedback and the detailed explanations of how this would help streamline your accounts payable.
We are dedicated to providing a solution for this over the longer term, but this will take some time requiring changes that sit beneath the face of bills.
In lieu of a direct feature for this we wanted to highlight some of the options discussed by the community here:
- Add a note to the bill: A detailed note on the bill itself can serve as a clear internal reminder of the dispute.
- Utilise tracking categories: Creating a specific tracking category like "Disputed Bills" can help you filter and report on these items.
- Adjust the due date: Temporarily extending the due date can prevent accidental payment while the dispute is…

Some great idea's on here for workarounds.
Personally, I am using the method of prefixing the invoice/reference number to QUERY or DO NOT PAY and then add notes. For me, it is more important that these invoices are not paid than whether they appear on reports or not. If any of the invoices are significant enough in value, I'll make an accrual for what I believe to be the correct amount so that it at least appears in a P&L report.
I like Sara and Lyall's way of working but let's be honest, this is a basic function that really ought to have been addressed by now.
Is anybody else imagining that Xero's developmemt team consists of maybe 2 or 3 people?

Hi Neil, this looks like a decent workaround, I might adopt this method. It’s just a shame and frustrating that the consumer has to develop imperfect workarounds when a perfect solution is well within reach.
And I feel that this particular problem like a few other problems that have a high vote count has dragged on so long now, that even if ( and it’s a big if) Xero addressed the issue with a permanent fix, there would still be a sour taste left in the mouth over it.

I was a Sage dinosaur, and came to Xero because my director had his ‘head turned’.
At the time Sage was being left behind in their field, but I think they have done a lot of work on their package recently and I wonder if it is worth another look now.

Appreciate how enabling your customers to update their own contact information would be helpful and save steps to keep accurate information and interact with your customers.
We don't have any direct plans around this atm, however we'll continue to track the interest this idea builds through the community and share if there are any updates.

Hi team, thank you for your thorough feedback in this idea. We appreciate there are different preferences our users have when approving invoices in Xero and just to re-highlight - there are now keyboard shortcuts available for most action buttons in invoicing to help navigate and quickly select the option you prefer rather than the drop down selection.
Though we understand it is not the news you're hoping here we want to be transparent that there are no plans at this stage to add the ability to set your own default for the Approve button in invoicing.
We will continue to track the support this idea keeps building and be sure to let you know if there is any change to the status of this idea, here.

Hi everyone, our product teams are continuously reviewing and reprioritising their roadmaps for future work and although we don’t have any plans to change the credit application process this year, this is something we will investigate more closely in 2026.
As we begin to explore work for enabling credit notes in the bill payments flow, we’ll reach out for input to help us shape the design and approach so we cater for the widest possible requirements. Thank you all, and we’ll be back to share when exploration starts.

Hi team, thanks for staying engaged with us here. From your feedback our product teams clearly understand there are legitimate use cases and scenarios in which you’d like to be able to simply unapprove a bill.
While seemingly simple there is a bit of underlying work that needs to be done within Bills to enable us to build this functionality - As you’ll have experienced within the Bills list view - we’re in the process of uplifting the pages in Bills with updated technology that’ll unlock our ability to develop features like unapprove.
So, while it’s not in our roadmap atm, we’re tuned in here and will continue to assess how we may solve this as we plan our future roadmap. I’ll make sure to share any progress with everyone here.

Yes, totally agree with Jain. This seems like it could be a reasonably uncomplicated change that would save me heaps of time. I have one or two customers who pay 300+ invoices at a time and I am forever scrolling.

Hi community, we thank you for your feedback on the value of being able to flag a Sales invoice as in dispute. We know a clear way to mark these invoices would be helpful.
Similarly to our update for Supplier invoices there are a few options you may want to consider to currently highlight Sales invoices in this situation;
- Add a note to the invoice to serve as a clear internal reminder of the dispute.
- Utilise tracking categories: Creating a specific tracking category like "Disputed Invoices" can help you filter and report on these items.
- Update the reference to add a notation such as [reference number] - 'In dispute'
While we know these aren't perfect solutions, we hope these may help some in the conversation right now.
We appreciate your enthusiasm for this feature, and we want to be transparent about where it stands, and this is an idea that…

For whatever this is worth, I am going to add my voice to this idea. I can see lot's of frustrated comments in the comments section.
At the moment I am using Hubdoc for 95% of my supplier invoices and I am sending them straight to 'Awaiting Approval'. This allows me to use the 'drafts' section to place all my supplier invoices in query. Not ideal but it's a workaround that works for me for now.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on bulk allocation of credit notes, everyone. We understand that manually applying credit notes one by one can be time-consuming, and we appreciate wanting a a faster, more streamlined solution.
Currently, while we know it won't be the flow that suits all, it's possible to apply credit notes to multiple invoices for a single contact by opening the credit note and selecting the invoices to apply it to.
Atm, we're in the process of releasing a new experience for Sales Credit Notes. This work will enable us to develop changes like you're asking here longer term. However, the initial release is focused on developing existing features into the new Credit Notes experience. Once this is fully rolled out the team will have more capacity to consider enhancements like bulk allocations, however we want to be upfront that this isn't planned for the short term.
We…

Apologies if this has been requested elsewhere - please merge with any similar suggestions.
I would like to see an 'allocate in full' button when allocating credit notes against invoices in the credit allocation screen. At the moment, there is only an 'Amount to credit' box which has to be manually input. From a personal POV, this can be time consuming because I sometimes have to allocate a single credit note against multiple invoices. The current situation is also 'unfriendly' because the balance left to credit is often at the foot of a very long list of invoices and so I have to keep scrolling to the bottom of the screen to see what's left to allocate.
Question for the 325 people who have voted for this. Seeing as Xero is pretending this is a non-issue and not worthy of an update, has anyone found a decent workaround to this yet? Are there existing reports in Xero that we can use in conjunction with one another to get the information we need?
