NZ GST - New GST return layout
New GST return layout and a few thoughts around it :-
1) when you export the PDF, the file name only shows as eg, GST return 01022024 for a GST return for period ending 31 March 2024. Why can't it show the client's company name, GST return followed by Period end date?
2) when you try to export the PDF with accounting firm logo - it doesn't seem to work and who has "minutes" to wait for it to download?
3? The body of the report is now in landscape which if the client were to print would take way more paper.

We also can't PDF the GST reports with our logo on it, and the new GST return itself looks awful. It is much harder to read than the current one and reminds me of the way the paper returns looked 20+ years ago.
I also hate the way the transaction report prints in landscape view and I can't seem to get the GST on income transactions come up first, followed by the GST on expenses transactions, with the No GST ones last unless I change the view to box number.
Also, when viewing the transactions there is so many columns ticked by default that the screen is really crowded and messy to look at. And even when you untick the columns you don't want on the screen they still all show on the report when you print to PDF.
I'd love to be able to untick the columns I don't use and save that format as custom so I don't have to do it for every client every time I go in to a return. And have the unticked columns not show on the PDF version of the transactions report.I'm not thrilled that the help pages for GST haven't been updated to the new experience yet either, and that the box when you go in to the new GST return summary screen refers to "sales tax returns" and not goods and services tax returns.

We are still having issues pdfing the report with our Logo on it. We use the first page as a Summary to send to our clients, and have had to revert to the old GST layout each time in order to do this. Please fix this before retiring any reports. It makes me nervous that they are being retired at the end of June and I can see nothing that shows any of the issues mentioned by others have been fixed yet.

Please could the "File with IR" button be put back at the top of the page?
I've had a number of clients miss it, because it now sits right at the bottom and on some devices the whole page doesn't show anymore
They are incurring late filing penalties as a result

Now having to tell clients not to print reports because of the terrible formatting!

Visually the return is a step backwards, looks to me like it was designed by MYOB. Also second the comment about the return being far too long to print, it is now common for returns to be in excess of 50 pages when previously they rarely exceeded 20 pages. Please do not retire the old layout.

Why do all the GST transaction pages print out in landscape?
The first page is portrait, but all the others are landscape taking more paper but making it very hard to read once it is in the file. Is there any way they can be changed?
I have informed our clients not to print out the report.

New GST Return Layout
- You can hide columns for a screen view but when you export to pdf, all the columns remain
- A clients GST Audit report that used to be 8 pages long is now 38 pages long (on landscape)
- Definitely takes longer to generate report
