UK Payroll - List contacts in alphabetical order, by Surname
It would help if the list of emplyees were sorted in alphabet order, by Surname. Also, a BACS report that just shows the employee, amount to be paid, and the total at the bottom.

AU Payroll - Create a report that shows when a salary change was actioned
Hi Guys, I'm not sure if this has been raised previously, but would like a payroll report that will detail employee salary changes and the date they changed.
4 votesHey team, if you'd like to see a report that shows changes made to payroll such as salary changes, you can use the Payroll History report.
It can be run for a specified date range and will show the date the changes were made, what the changes were, the employee affected and the user who made the changes.

NZ Payroll - History and notes in Payroll to show changes made
There should be an audit trail in Payroll detailing when changes to an Employee record is made (for example: date an address was updated for an employee and what it was until that date, likewise for other details such as email address, bank account number, tax code etc). As an Employer we should be able to rely on the digitised Payroll system we are using to determine when changes to an Employee's record has been made. In terms of creating an audit trail, this doesn't necessarily only apply to Payroll only and should ideally be something that is normal…

UK Payroll - Exclude employees/directors from pension at any time
Be able to change an employee/director to be excluded from the pension at any time.
At the moment, if a director is not excluded from the pension scheme straight the way, the payroll has to be rolled back to when the director was assessed. This is fine for small payrolls but would be very timely on the larger payrolls.2 votes -
UK Payroll - Show full salary and YTD earnings
Before the update there were two greyed out boxes, when hovered over revealed the employee full salary and earnings to date - this was very handy when the salaries are based on an hourly rate. Where has this function gone? and can we have it back please.

UK Payroll - Individual Payslip PDF file name should default to the person's name
When downloading the individual payslip it would be nice if the PDF would say the persons name rather than the default filename of Payslip (1) etc
Other payroll software such as Shape does this. Shame that Xero doesn't3 votes -
AU Payroll - Total payment to show on Pay Runs and individual Pay Run screen
Show the Total Payment of a Pay Run, on both the Pay Runs and individual Pay Run screen. As it is, you have to click Payroll > Pay Employees > Pay Run > Employee to see the Total Payment for that specific Pay Run. Far too many clicks to check what the total amount was that was posted to Wages Payable account (and paid from the bank account).

122 votesHi everyone, as part of the work we're doing here, we're looking to engage some small businesses as well as accountants and bookkeepers who use our Payroll functionality to try out our new prototypes and give us feedback.
We'd look to set up a video call over the next 3 weeks which'll take about 60 minutes. If you'd be interested in taking part, please apply by using this form. 😊 Thanks

UK Payroll - Payroll specific tracking
Why can't the payroll be separate to Xero? I can't allocate Employee Groups because I've already got two tracking categories in use!

AU Payroll - Add negative reimbustments to pay templates
I want a negative Reimbursement line item in the Employee Template.
This can be done in a Payrun, but cannot be done in the Employee Template screen.
With STP 2 we have some payroll reimbursement entries that need to be processed every pay. They need to be positive and negative entries so that the Wages Payable account does not go out of balance. This can be done in a payrun - why not in the Employee Pay Template. Please see the screenshots.2 votesHi team, while it isn't possible to make a negative reimbursement line in an employees pay template, you could set up a deduction pay item.
A deduction item would function the same as the negative reimbursement line, as well as being able to be added into the employees pay template.
It'd be good to understand more if there's a reason using a deduction wouldn't be adequate here.

Xero Me - Prevent employees from editing personal details
It would be great if we can lock down the ability for an employee to edit and change their legal name and date of birth in Xero Me.

Expenses - Set annual expense limits, with alerts
I want to track certain yearly expenses. I wish to put a limit to the expenses. When they reach the limit,I wish Xero can alert me. Eg Setting a limit on staff benefit per employee as $1,000. Once $1,000 is reached, a message can be sent to me.

AU Payroll - Tax commissions paid using regular tax table
This is not an idea; it is a requirement, Xero.
At present, all pay types classified as commissions are being taxed as follows: "The method for Schedule 5 in Xero, calculates the PAYG withholding amount by averaging all additional payments made in the current financial year, over the number of pay periods in a financial year, and applying that to the average total earnings to date".If commissions are paid every month, they should not be taxed in this manner, as per this ATO web page which says "Do not use this schedule for payments for a single pay period".

Reports - Option to use pay periods dates rather than payment date
I would prefer that the dates displayed on the Payroll Activity Details & the Payroll Employee Summary reports are the beginning and of the pay period.
I have found that some of my clients get confused with the way those reports are currently issued, using the payment date.5 votes -
NZ Payroll - Sick leave entitlements to automatically accrue when employees are included in any future pay run following their entitlement.
As a Chartered Accountant, I’ve observed an issue in Xero’s handling of sick leave entitlements that I believe warrants improvement. Currently, if an employee is not included in the pay run closest to their sick leave entitlement date, the entitlement does not accrue. This creates a significant gap in compliance with employment obligations and adds unnecessary administrative burden to correct.
To enhance the functionality and flexibility of Xero's payroll system, I think that sick leave entitlements should automatically accrue when the employee is included in any future pay run following their entitlement date. This adjustment would ensure compliance with employment…3 votesThanks for your feedback of how Xero handles sick leave entitlements, Natalee.
I've made sure this is shared back with our product team, and while we can understand the reason for change you'd like to see here, we want to be open that this isn't something we have planned in the immediate future.
Right now, if an employee isn't included in the scheduled pay run when their leave anniversary date falls, you'll need to do a manual leave adjustment to grant the employee the missed entitlement.
If there's any news of change for this, we'll update you here.

AU Payroll - Remove past employees from drop-down menu in payroll reports
It would be great to be able to remove past employees from the drop-down menus when generating Payroll reports. This would be particularly helpful for businesses who employ a lot of staff members, especially if there's a high churn rate.

UK Payroll: Customise default working week
Ability to set up standard week in Xero Payroll.
Purpose: To make users easily calculate their employee’s wages. Especially for industries that run 7 days a week.
186 votesHi everyone, we’re pleased to share that we’ve now released working patterns to all UK organisations that use Xero Payroll.
This change reduces manual workarounds enabling you to enter more information employees’ working patterns to support accurate allocations of leave and earnings rates. You’ll find you can now;
- Create or select from working pattern templates
- Add working patterns manually or using the template
- Setup multiple weeks of a working pattern
We’ve shared a few videos on YouTube that’ll help guide you through the change 😊
We really appreciate everyone who’s engaged with us on this idea and those who’ve been involved in testing some of the functionality with us through the journey.

UK Payroll: Send P45s direct from Xero
At the moment, we can only download the P45 and then email to employees by different software. It would be better if we can just email the P45 directly to employees from Xero.

NZ Timesheets - Set default pay calendar for timesheet review
When go in to view/approve timesheets have the ability to set a default pay calendar to use (currently all pay calendars including archived pay calendars come up). And the pay calendar for last week (defaults to the current week which means need to scroll down and repeat each time you view/check a new employee). Not very time efficient
