  1. Create a Receivable and/or Payable Credit Note Report which lists all credit notes issued/received, and the corresponding invoice they are linked to. This will help as when a credit note is issued the status is 'paid', however if I want to do a review of invoices and days until invoice is paid, I want to be able to exclude items that have been credit noted.

    Thanks for sharing your idea.

For now, the closest thing we have is to use the Receivable/Payable Invoice Detail (or Summary) reports.

You can use the Filter option on Source, to only show credit notes. However, the existing reports don't show the invoices/bills they're allocated to.

It's now up to the community to get behind and support it. Make sure you share your idea with any colleagues that this could benefit so they can add their vote too!

Along with votes, other members can now comment to share additional detail about how your idea could improve their experience with Xero.

  2. When pulling a Contacts report (expense by vendor, cash payments made to vendors, etc) out of Xero, please add the ability to "turn on" more fields from Contacts. For 1099 purposes, it's crucial to see "business entity" selections and "DBA names" (IRS-registered business name) when preparing the 1099 report. I know you can see this info within the 1099 report, but looking at one contact at a time is not efficient.

  3. Many of my clients are partnerships and trade using the partners initials e.g. J & J Doe but on their reports it displays as %26 and on emails that they are sending with sales invoices, it displays as "& amp;" meaning that when I save reports or they send their invoices, this has to be changed. Having worked in a software house previously, I know that this is a programming issue and one that should have a relatively simple fix so can you please look at this.

  4. When reviewing reports (e.g., Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet), we often need to view monthly data from the start of the fiscal year up to the current month. Right now, we have to manually select the first and last day of each month every time, which is time-consuming and repetitive. This makes simple tasks like flicking through months to verify data more cumbersome than necessary.

    1. Add “Previous Month” / “Next Month” buttons These buttons would auto-update the report’s date range to the previous or next full month.

Example: From May 1 – May 31, clicking "Next" moves the report to…

Thanks for submitting your idea on Xero Product Idea's, Jessica. We appreciate you taking your time to share changes that would be most meaningful to you.

We don't have any plans for adding more common date options in reports atm, but we'll begin to get a feel of the interest in this from your idea.

  5. Can a total be added under the amount on this report.
If a total was available, I wouldn't need to export to excel simply to add a total before sharing the report.

Ideally, the total would also apply to groups on the report, ie, total by employee and total for all employees.

  6. Small Business Corporations (SBC's) can, under certain circumstances, depreciate assets in a 3-year schedule as follows:

    • 1st year: 50%
    • 2nd year: 30%
    • 3rd year: 20%

See the attached document, under 4.2.

Currently, this is not possible (I checked with Support).

I expect this to work within Xero, as it is a regular tax rule in South Africa.

Adding this schedule for South Africa would be extremely useful and important, as we now have to do the depreciation outside of Xero.

  7. Add the estimates section when downloading a copy of the Tax Return, to a full breakdown of the assessable income & tax owed. Usually I use pg 4 on a downloaded copy of a TR, but it does include a values in that section. it would be best to have a detailed summary that fits in 1-2 pages.

Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing this idea and for clearly outlining how a more detailed breakdown of assessable income, deductions, offsets, and tax owed in the downloaded Tax Return would fit into your workflow.

We’ve moved this idea into Gaining support. It’s now open for the wider community to add votes and comments, which helps us understand how useful this change would be across different practices. If others see value in this, they’re welcome to share how they’d use it.

We’ll continue to monitor the feedback as it comes in.

  8. Assign staff as bulk. At the moment I need to add everyone who I want to assign to a project individually and then click done and then go back to assign and do it again. It would be easy if we could select the staff once and once click done.

  9. When Importing from Xero to Xero Tax (AU), there is a filter button to filter only PP or NPP labels (or Both).

These are only relevant to Revenue and Expenses account types (and tax return labels).

When I click PP or NPP and then move onto Assets/Liabilities/Equity, no Tax Return Labels show up in the drop down (because Xero Tax filters them out).

Xero Tax SHOULD NOT filter out labels for Assets/Liabilities/Equity. There is no benefit and no efficiency for this behaviour. Xero Tax should return ALL labels for Assets/Liabilities/Equity whenever PP or NPP (or Both) is selected.

  10. Suggestions to improve the reporting of GST Audit Beta

    1. Allow us to select which Tax Codes to display in report (default All)

    2. Show the tax code in each row rather than as a report subheader. Useful when there are lots of records for some tax codes

    3. I noticed that we can select Reference field for the columns, but not Invoice No. If the entry's Ref field is blank, the report shows the Invoice No. So this is misrepresenting the report, and showing inaccurate results as no one analysing the report would know if they are seeing the Ref no or…

  11. Following the introduction to MTD for ITSA, we will be reporting a number of clients rental income to HMRC using Xero, which we previously did not. As a result of MTD for ITSA we will be preparing more Tax Returns using Xero Tax.

It is currently not possible to import rental income & expenses, from a client's Xero account directly to Xero Tax (where as you can for sole trade businesses). Unfortunately these figures need to be typed in manually.

Would it be possible to add this feature into Xero Tax?

Thanks for sharing your idea of importing rental income into the personal tax return.

We've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it.

It is worth noting that our MTD for IT functionality will include the option to include rental income/expenses and will utilise tracking categories to do this.

  12. I currently can't export the quarterly activitiy statement due to too many transactions so produce monthly reports via custom date reports, however there is no option here to include unfiled amounts and therefore the reports are not matching the quarterly statement amount.

Appreciate your idea about BAS reporting, Michelle! It’s great to hear how including unfiled amounts in custom date reports could help with your audit workflow.

We’ve moved your idea to Gaining support, so it’s now open for the community to vote on and discuss. The more you can tell us about how this would fit into your workflow, the easier it is for others to see why it matters and for the product team to understand the impact.

Thanks again for getting the conversation started.

  13. Dear Xero,

Please!.. Ideally, accurate references on all source documents should be able to link them to their Payment transactions in Xero. However, it can be extremely difficult and time-consuming - especially with Spend/Receive Money transactions.

It would be incredibly helpful for a column of 'Link ID's' to be displayed on all detailed reports.

Doesn't need to be fancy, just a Unique ID.

This link ID would need to be automatically generated by Xero, and, have the ability to change dynamically in the case a payment is removed (as one of many examples).

It would help to see the account…

Hi Callum, appreciate you highlighting how a unique payment reference field could support reconciliation workflows. Your suggestion about displaying Link IDs on detailed reports to track account movements is a valuable feedback.

This idea has now moved to Gaining Support, which means it’s open for community support through votes and comments. We encourage other members who would find this helpful to add their votes and share their experiences.

In the meantime, a practical workaround is to use the “Reference” field consistently. When creating invoices, include a unique reference code for the payment (for example, PAY-1001), and when receiving payments, enter the same reference in the “Reference” field. This ensures that the data will appear in the Reference column in both the Receivable Invoice report and the Account Transactions report when run for the relevant bank account, making it easier to track and reconcile payments.

Thanks for sharing this idea. We've reviewed this and now other users can add their votes and comments to support it.

For now, there's a way you can get a report on the manual journals, but without listing the user details.

    To do this:

    1) Run the Account Transactions Report for the relevant date range.

    2) Click the Accounts dropdown and click Select All.

    3) Use the Filter option to select Source = Manual Journal.

    4) Click Update to generate the report.

Although this report won't list the users, you can click into journals to view their details, the History & Notes will show who entered it.

  15. New GST return layout and a few thoughts around it :-
    1) when you export the PDF, the file name only shows as eg, GST return 01022024 for a GST return for period ending 31 March 2024. Why can't it show the client's company name, GST return followed by Period end date?
    2) when you try to export the PDF with accounting firm logo - it doesn't seem to work and who has "minutes" to wait for it to download?
3? The body of the report is now in landscape which if the client were to print would…

Hi everyone, we appreciate all your feedback on the new GST return and while I've made sure your feedback has been shared with product, we're going to close this idea being too broad to focus in on a particular change.

We've created individual ideas for the following points raised as it'd be good to track the interest in each separately. Please do add your vote to each that you'd like to see.

I'd also encourage raising a case with our specialists at Xero Support if you're having any issues with performance or usability as it'd be good to get more detail and our team can investigate.

  16. For the Annual Financial Statements, it may be useful to include the entity’s registration number directly beneath the entity’s name in brackets — for example:

    The New Company (Pty) Ltd
    (2025/######/07).

This can be applied on both the cover page and in the header for consistency

Hi Karen, thanks for submitting this idea. Showing percentages in the Profit & Loss report when using Tracking Categories would make it easier to see how different projects, departments, or locations are performing at a glance.

This feature would give you clearer insights and save time by reducing the need to export data and crunch numbers in spreadsheets.

This idea is now in the Gaining Support stage. If this would help your reporting, please add your vote or share your thoughts, it really helps the product team understand the impact.

We’ll keep this thread updated with any news.

  18. It would be great if we could add a "files" column to account transactions to view attached files without the need to drill into each separate transaction. This feature is already available in VAT returns.

  19. It would save time and avoid accounting errors if a new document type existed (akin to Bills) that can be sent to recipients (contacts) generating the accounting transactions appropriate for distributions such as dividends and appointments from trusts. Those transactions would be on equity and assets accounts (not expense accounts and accounts payable as is the case for Bills).

It would be great if such processing could be applied to contacts in bulk (e.g. a shareholders register) but the possibility of accounting for distributions singly would be a good start.

I am a trustee and the usual distributions are cash…

I've just signed up to submit accounts via MTD with HMRC but Xero currently don't allow me to do this unless I use an accountant. I use Xero so I don't need an accountant... I'm now a bit stuck as HMRC require me to submit account for the current 2025-2026 tax year this way and I have no way of doing this. Please help! thanks.
