Ability to specify which user has access to the lock dates.
Purpose: To prevent clients from changing prior year figures in Xero after the financials have been published.
79 votesHi everyone, thanks for sharing your feedback on this idea. We appreciate you explaining how important more control over lock dates is for protecting your data integrity and supporting your workflows.
As part of our wider review of roles and permissions across Xero, we’re pleased to let you know that this is a feature that we’re exploring controls in and reviewing the viability of. We'll keep you updated here as our plans shape up further.

User Role - Reconcile without access to approve invoices
Being able to customize each user role is quite important as every person in every company does something different. Giving them access to systems they shouldn't have because the User Role they need to do their job allows them access to these other areas is a security risk in general.
Putting in Custom Roles will also allow companies to adjust the Users to their Company Policies for controls.
This is the main reason I am posting this, as we are soon bringing on a new junior accountant where I will need to give them "approval" rights for Invoicing and a…
78 votesAppreciate the idea here - Being transparent, developing granular permissions or roles for every feature and action throughout Xero is not in our plans.
Understanding more of the permission sets majority of users need, will help understand where the biggest impact could be made.
I've slightly adjusted the title to suit the needs of the role you mentioned. We'll get a sense of others that'd like this too.

Email Settings: Add a default CC email address to templates
Ability to add a default CC email address in the email template.
Purpose: Users can easily input another email address when they have to add they create an email template.
72 votesHi everyone, a few different asks within the idea here and I'd like to confirm what is currently possible to help clarify.
We have recently released a new send modal with new invoicing - with this update you now have the ability to cc and Bcc emails when sending individual invoices from Xero with new invoicing.
While it's not possible to set default cc and Bcc email at the email template level at present this may be something we look into further down the line and we will keep you updated of any planned improvements through this idea.
For the time being, if there are other people for a contact that you'd like to ensure also receive emails you can add them as additional people to the Contact record and select to 'Include this person in emails sent to this contact'
On the other hand, if you'd like to ensure…

MFA | Add support for Yubikey
Please can you add support for Yubikeys, the development webpage is here:
71 votesThanks for sharing with us here, everyone. We appreciate why you'd like simpler methods to improve efficiency when logging in to use Xero.
Our product team have started some work to enable logging into Xero using passkeys. As mentioned in some of your comments, this'll support Yubikeys by default.
For now, we'll move this idea to Under review and I'll come back to keep you updated on the latest news for this feature.

Xero Login - Enable Passkeys as a replacement to passwords
Passkeys (https://fidoalliance.org/passkeys/) are rapidly taking over passwords and are infinitely more secure than passwords.
Intuit are already using Passkeys (https://fidoalliance.org/case-study-intuits-roi-from-passwordless-customer-authentication/)
62 votesHi team, we've just launched passkeys to our first group of users. From this week, Xero Me app users who haven't set up MFA yet will be able to use passkeys to log into Xero. Next, we'll be progressively rolling this out to more users over the coming months. We look forward to and welcome your feedback here. As we have more news on the rollout I'll share with you on this idea.

Ability to give users options to customise various graphic reports on the dashboard.
Purpose: Users’ can easily see the graph and business performance from the dashboard.

Dashboard - Edit dashboard layout
Dashboard- It would be great if Xero gave us more options to edit out Dashboards. Two colums are not enough, at the most I get to see four accounts before I have to scroll, they needn't be so large either. If they had three colums, and we could shrink the size of the 'boxes' then we could easily see a better snapshot of work to do and where the business is at.
56 votesHi team, we appreciate all the feedback we've received from our customers about the Dashboard and how we could improve this for you.
As you may have seen or perhaps even have access to already - over the coming months we are releasing a new Xero Homepage that'll replace the existing Dashboard.
We've done lots of research and testing with our customers for the new homepage. You'll be able to customise to show which widgets you want, and it's built with updated technology so is much more responsive - adapting based on your device, screen size and zoom functions to show a maximum of 4 widgets side-by-side!
I'll update you again here when this is live to you all, and if you'd like to give it a go now - jump on into the demo co 😊

User Role - Restrict access to specific Tracking categories
Ability to restrict access to specific tracking categories for some users in Xero org.
Purpose: To help users hide the incoming and outgoing transactions from some users within the Xero org. Some organisations (e.g. not for profit) need this to protect the privacy of their donors and departments.

UK Payroll - Allow Xero users permission to authorise employee timesheets
Allow Xero users permission to authorise employee timesheets. At the moment only the payroll administrator or specific employee has the ability to do this. Payroll permissions under settings/users should be expanded to be more granular, with an option to allow users permission to authorise timesheets. Alternatively, under the employee details in Payroll, an option to select authorised Xero users whom may sign off timesheets for that user.
55 votesHi everyone, thanks for your feedback on the ability for employees to approve timesheets.
Payroll is definitely an area we know needs more permission controls. This is something our product teams are beginning to explore and do deeper research of.
We'll keep you updated as our team progresses through the discovery work.

MFA - Move cursor to code field automatically
When I login to Xero, I enter my email address and password and am taken to the second page (MFA).
I'm then asked for the authenticator code, but I have to click into the field to enter the code.
Xero knows that there is an almost 100% likelihood that the first (and only) thing I am going to do on that page is enter the MFA code.
Xero should automatically have the cursor in that field so that I can type the code without clicking into the field.
51 votesThanks for sharing your idea, we've reviewed your idea and now it's up to the community to get behind and support it.

Login - Single Sign-on (SSO) across Xero Products
Would be nice when moving from Xero to Xero HQ and Xero Central to have it retain your login so you do not have to login to each site separately.
50 votesThanks for sharing your interest in single sign on across Xero's products. This is available currently across many areas or Xero. For example if you are logged in and working in Xero, then move across to Xero Central(our support hub) you may need to click the login button in the top right of the screen but if you're session hasn't ended you should find the page should refresh and automatically log you in.
We appreciate wanting a smoother login experience that's recognised across all Xero products and will share if there are any improvements planned around this with you all, here.

Navigation - More keyboard shortcuts in Xero
Creating more Keyboard shortcuts in Xero.
Purpose: Save time and create efficiencies.
50 votesHi community, as many will have seen in our updates about new invoicing we’ve been releasing many improvements to the new experience including keyboard shortcuts that will also interest many in the idea here.
At the end of 2024, we made an update so all date entry shortcuts will now also work within new invoicing. Along with this and listening closely to our customers feedback, we’ve most recently delivered some new keyboard shortcuts specifically for new invoicing. These shortcuts help users quickly perform common actions while invoicing to save the need of using your mouse and clicking around. Shortcuts include things like; different options when Approving or updating your invoice, being able to Preview, or Print your invoice, through to sending your invoice to a customer. You can view the full list of shortcuts that can be used in Windows and Mac, as well as all other shortcuts available across…

User Permissions - History recorded of role changes and ability to add description
There is currently no record of changes to User registrations in the xero file. This is a failure of audit processes.
A description for each user would be handy to identify the role of each person within the Organisation.
A start and End date would allow for Temporary access arrangements.49 votesHi team, we appreciate the interest in this idea and how having a record of changes to a users permissions would be helpful as an audit in your Xero organisation.
While this history event isn't in our immediate plans, we are closely considering how and what changes we record history for as we continue to develop parts of Xero.
For the time being we are continuing to keep a watchful eye on the support in this here, and I will make sure to share if there is any news of this for you all here.

For employees who use Xero My Payroll, if you are a Payroll Admin user, you can grant employees authority to approve leave. The option for Timesheet approval should also be there, it is available in other countries but not NZ.

Permission - Ability to choose either or both Sales, PO, quotes and Invoice for Invoice Only user
Invoice only user role that allows you to pick and choose either or both Sales and Purchase orders. quotes and invoices. At the moment you can only have Sales or Purchase IO otherwise you have to make standard user which is not helpful.

User Access - Restrict Invoice only role to Customer list
There is a role setup for Invoices Only (Purchases). This is useful if you want to have a User process Accounts Payable Invoices, but without providing access to Sales Invoices.
However, if you login with this role, you can see 'All Contacts' as well as the list of all 'Customers' and the billing amounts outstanding. Surely this is inappropriate if the role is for Invoices Only (Purchases)?
The suggestion is that a user with the role 'Invoices Only (Purchases) can see Supplier contacts, but cannot view Customer contacts (which is really what most people would expect if this role is…
