New Invoicing - Option to switch Autosave off
I don't want autosave on for invoicing - I use third party software to copy invoice details to a Trello Card, this is triggered when the invoice is saved.
Auto saving will send the invoice info through to Trello before the invoice is complete, meaning not all the info will be sent to Trello.
Are we able to turn off the auto save function in new invoicing?

The auto save for both adjusting draft invoicing and now the invoice number is a huge time hindrance. It has caused me no end of time lost as I have to create complex yearly drafts. If you go wrong you have to start again at a huge waste of time. The auto invoice has caused incorrect invoice number sequencing to be sent. Not happy. Please please please please allow an option to switch this off.

The new autoasave feature has significantly increased the time taken to edit invoices and made the whole invoicing process more frustrating than it needs to be. Please consider allowing this to be turned off

We need the ability to disable autosave. It uses invoice numbers when you're half way through typing and it makes editing an invoice take excessively long as it tries to auto save between edits - and when we're making 10 edits it now wastes our time whereas before we could rapidly make our changes and save thereafter. Sort it and consult finance practitioners before making changes to your tool.

Please implement this! This auto save is ridiculously laggy and slows everything down. When you have 100 plus invoices to raise it reallty is a problem. Why won't these people listen??

Autosave wastes invoice numbers. Having drafts meant they could be prepared and deleted if not required without using up invoice numbers.

We don't use third-party software or integrations...Autosave just plain sucks and is probably the singular, most disruptive and dumbest part of the "upgrades" brought in with "new" invoicing.
I know there are some folks out there that appear to like it, but so many of us don't and it is causing us no end of issues including monetary ones, in terms of staff time and productivity losses, not to mention direct fiscal hits (when mistakes caused by autosave lags don't get spotted before the invoices are sent!)...
Xero is all about the money, these days, so surely you should understand that?
Make it optional for Pete's sake!

We do not need to use any third party software to correct inconvenience created by "so cleaver" Xero coders. Remove autosave or make it optional!!!

Not using any third party tools! Invoicing is just horrible with auto save.

Oh great, another work-around!!

I hear you — the auto-save feature in Xero's new invoicing can definitely be frustrating when you're using third-party tools like Trello that rely on the invoice being manually saved or finalized. Auto-save often triggers too early, before all the details are complete.
At the moment, Xero doesn’t allow you to turn off auto-save in the new invoicing layout. One workaround could be adjusting your Trello integration (if possible) to trigger only when the invoice is approved or marked as sent, instead of just saved.
We've come across this issue with several clients, and it's something we cover in our training sessions. If you're looking for guidance on setting up workflows like this effectively, feel free to check out our Xero training here:

It also slows the whole billing process down and it's slow enough as it is on the new invoicing system! How am I going to recover the extra time costs from clients for the time it's taking me to do the billing. At some points in the day it can take up to 20 seconds before I can even click on one of the boxes, then it autosaves, then another 15 seconds to move to the next box. I won't even go onto the visuals!

Invoicing is now taking me twice as long while I wait for it to catch up so I can attach a document and include it with the invoice. Who is going to pay for the extra time it's taking me? It shouldn't be my client. Maybe Xero can pay some compensation for replacing a very good invoicing system with this dysfunctional rubbish.

I can't understand the dumb logic of the coding behind the need for autosave after every word in a description cell; therefore, there is a delay in completing a simple task. Common sense would tell you to await the end of the full row before initiating autosave.
Presumably, the lag is down to the AI learning processes you are trying to utilise?

Auto-save is completely unnecessary in all but the most specific situations.
In every other scenario is it actively detrimental to efficient workflows.
Normally I'd suggest a toggle wouldn't be hard to implement, but this is Xero, so it's likely three years worth of development away. -

This is one of the worst ideas - autosave is a nightmare and given Classic worked so well they have completely annihilated new invoicing. We shouldn't have to use work arounds for any part of it at all. We should be able to do what we used to do.
Xero just can't admit they've screwed it up badly and instead of giving us all a discount on subscriptions they just keep with the and tell us how they're listening.
If you were listening then fix what we're asking for - turn off the autosave etc.

@Mike Johnston - I've tried that and then as soon as I add a contact, all of the customer defaults kick in and it changes my accounts and tax rates or, if I haven't got any defaults set, deletes them entirely. Either way, it forces me to redo work for no reason other than Xero's dev incompetence.

Autosafe is a very frustrating default function, please Xero, have an option to switch it off, otherwise there are too many versions of the same invoice or a bill and it is extremely unprofessional and confusing!

Sharing this as it might help others frustrated with invoice auto-save (isn't everyone?).
I'm not sure if this is working in every situation but I am now avoiding auto-save by not entering a contact until the last step of invoice creation. most of our invoices are copies of previous month's so I delete the contact out as part of the copying process. Seems to be working much better and faster this way, just entering the contact as the last step before approval/saving.
Here's hoping Xero kills autosave ASAP -

Autosave is ridiculously slow. Other cloud based applications are far superior - perhaps Xero could reach out and find out how to do it properly.

Hi, I was also directed here by Xero Support...Auto-Save has only recently started causing me issues when invoicing. The program slows down to a frustrating rate as it auto-saves after every entry, so to complete one line can take a minute. Try completing an invoice with 40 lines! That's 40 minutes to enter 1 invoice!! Can the auto save be less aggressive, have it do it every 20 seconds not every 3-5 seconds? Thanks
