  1. Hi,
Something that would be very helpful as an accountant, is the ability to run a report for a given date which shows all the transactions where the VAT was claimed/paid on a later return. I know that the VAT reconciliation report doesn't work with MTD.
Happy to discuss to help with this.

Hi everyone, we appreciate why you’d like a report that provides visibility of VAT late claims to streamline your reconciliation processes, especially around year-end and for monthly VAT returns.

Currently, it's possible to use the Account Transactions report to manually reconcile against filed VAT returns, although we get the desire for a more automated solution.

This isn’t on the team’s roadmap at present, however this is something we'll continue to consider how we accommodate these needs in future planning for tax reports in Xero. I'll be sure to let you know if there is any movement to share, here.

  2. Per the attached screenshot, we are utilising tracking categories to track income and expenditure for two branches of a business with one ABN. Most of the reports can be filtered between tracking categories. I can see no reason that the GST reports should not be able to be filtered by tracking category, or even the Activity Statement report. We should be able to expect this filtering for ABN branches.

  5. Most of our clients (and I imagine many small businesses in the U.S.) use a hybrid reporting basis. Basically, short term assets and liabilities are recorded using the cash basis while long term assets and liabilities are recorded using the accrual basis.
Therefore, for example, this will result in sales being recorded when cash received but depreciation and amortization expense are recorded monthly. This method of reporting also results in the accounting basis being more similar to tax basis.

Xero actually has a webpage describing this (https://www.xero.com/us/guides/cash-vs-accrual-accounting) but states "And if you run a hybrid accounting system, smart…

  6. Would like a report showing a list of bank account number changes. This would show original bank account number, new bank account number, contact's name, date the bank account number was amended and who amended the bank account number and to be able to print this as a pdf. This would be of great benefit because of fraud and also our Auditor has asked if we can produce a list of bank account number changes for a selected period.

Hi everyone, while we don't have a direct report for this, some changes we've made to History & Notes in Xero will help in achieving what you're in need of here.

You can run the History & Notes, filtering by Type = Contact and typing 'Bank account number' in the Search to just view results for this action.

If needed you'll be able to export your results to PDF or Excel.

Though the contact name doesn't show on screen, you can right click on the Contact in the report to open the contact's record in a new browser tab, that allows you to inspect details without navigating away from your History & Notes results.

  7. Ability to transfer customised reports between practices or other businesses. Currently this is not possible so if a client changes accounting practices then reports do not follow. This is expensive for the client for reports to be redone and totally unnecessary given that all the formatting necessary already exists on another system.

Hi community, thanks for all the energy and great conversation on this idea. We recognise the passion for making reporting in Xero better for your needs.

Wee understand that rebuilding report templates for each individual client or entity is time-consuming, and the current option of using Report Templates in Xero HQ mapping of the chart of accounts can be tricky to apply to different client files. However, we want to front foot that enabling the ability to transfer reports across practices or organisations isn't planned in the near term.

We'll continue to review and consider this idea in the longer term and if this work is picked up will be more than happy to share an update with you all, here.

  8. Similar to other "snapshots" available on the Dashboard, for any VAT registered business it is important to know liabilities at the click of a button. Please can Xero support look into an "add-on" for VAT liability total shown on the dashboard

Hi community, we recognise it's been some time since our last update on this idea and apologise for the delay in coming back here.

After our last post, priorities for the team did pivot and work for showing current VAT liability was put on hold.

While not actively underway atm, we have intentions of surfacing an organisation's VAT liability total on the dashboard on our longer terms roadmap. While we'll move this idea to Accepted for now, as soon as there is movement we'll be back to update you again. Thanks

  9. Not sure this is really part of Xero HQ - but it would be really useful to be able to drill down into the unfiled VAT section on the VAT reconciliation report.

  10. GST - where an entity trades in different tax jurisdictions, allow the file to create the ability to manage GST for different countries (different GST codes) in separate GST accounts and not all consolidated into one GST account.
eg if an entity trades in Australia and New Zealand, you can have an Australian GST account and a NZ GST account to make reconciliation and completion of BAS easier.

Hey community, thanks for your interest and feedback on this idea 💡

Did you know that the transaction reports on the VAT return can be exported to Excel format where these can then be sorted/searched and filtered to help review the transactions?

We don’t have any near term plans to expand functionality to develop the ability to sort, filter and search within the tax rate box of the VAT return. If anything changes in the future, we’ll update you on this idea! 📢

  13. It will be really great from the Aged Receivables Reports to be able to send Statements to Customers without having to leave the page and come back to it.

A flag, on the Aged Receivables Reports, of when last a statement was sent will also be very useful.

Hey team, thanks for all your input on partial asset disposal.

We understand that manually managing parts of an asset can be time-consuming. While we don't have plans at this time to develop a built-in feature, your feedback's really helpful in showing us where things could improve.

For now, manual methods to calculate depreciation and record journal entries to keep things accurate would be the best option.

However, this is a feature that we'd like to revisit as we plan our future roadmaps, and will be happy to share if there is any traction around this. Please keep sharing this idea with any colleagues you feel could benefit from this too.

Hi everyone, thanks for raising and supporting this idea of having more visibility or an alert when turnover is reaching the VAT threshold. This is something our team have picked up and taking a deeper dive into. No promises at this point but we'll keep you updated of any news here.

  16. So annoying that my published reports remove decimals points every time. PLEASE MAKE THIS CHANGE. Published reports should be saved as is!!! Do not modify my published report XERO! We produce hundreds of these reports every month and have to keep adding the decimal back. This is driving our firm insane!!!

  17. The template for importing journals is setup tax inclusive, but once imported, Xero defaults to tax exclusive and a journal including tax transactions therefore doesn't balance until you go into the draft journal itself and change back to tax inclusive!

Would be useful to be able to globally set whether imported journals are tax inclusive or exclusive. Presumably in the "Tax Defaults" section of Financial Settings.

  18. The 300 line cap for importing journals is completely pointless and shortsighted. With MTD rules requiring digital links, importing of journals/transactions has become vital, yet Xero still retains this nonsensical limit. We are forced to manually intervene and adjust where journals are too long (makes a mockery of MTD). Excel can handle over a million lines (and has done for ~20 years now). Sage manages 999 (still limited in this day in age). Somewhere between the two would be great!
    Keep up Xero.
