If you pay a vendor too much and they send you a refund for the overpayment that is recorded as a Receive Money transaction, then the amount to be reported on the 1099 should be the net (amount paid less the refund received), but since Receive Money transactions don't populate on the 1099 report, the amount is incorrect.

  6. The 1099 functionality is not all that helpful currently with the way US laws are.

    From what I understand about 1099-Misc, there are three key things that determine whether or not you must provide for a regular vendor (there are lost of odd rules for attorneys and the like so I'm just writing about your regular vendor.)

    1) Usually only applies to payments >= $600
    2) Usually excludes Corporations
    3) Usually excludes payments made by credit card or 3rd party network like PayPal due to 1099-K

    Hi everyone, we appreciate feedback and conversation on how we could improve Xero's 1099 reporting over the years.


    Some time on from when this idea was first shared on Feature Requests - We've made lots of updates to Xero's  1099 and I'd like to round back on some of the ideas raised here.

    👉 Majority of account types can now be selected in the rules set up
    👉 We released Contacts Management which allows you to update a contact's W9 business classification, and a checkbox to automatically add them into a 1099 contact group, and select this group in your rules. If they're a corporation, don't tick the checkbox, and they won't appear in reports.
    👉 As per IRS guidelines, any payments made via a credit card or third party network are reported on a 1099-K form.

    Hi everyone, we've just released Contact Management as a dashboard, which you'll find when you next navigate to your 1099 report in Xero 🙂

    Contact Management enables you to view, find, and edit your 1099 contacts all from this one page. Giving you more visibility and ease of use when preparing and running your 1099's with Xero - See more detail in our help article on Xero Central


    In addition to the Contact Management view, we've made another update to 1099 so you can now mark your 1099 contacts directly when adding or editing from Contacts.

  8. Make W-9 request available from the contact page. Perhaps where financial details are manually entered. Why have to go over to the 1099 report?

    Hi everyone, we've released a new 'Tax Details' section for US customers in Contacts that allows you to request W-9s from a contact you've set up in Xero. From this section you'll also be able to see a contacts W-9 status and manually update this if needed.

    We've also added additional fields for 'Name on the income tax return' (previously 'Legal name') and 'Business or disregarded entity name' in Contacts to match the 1099 W-9 Management space.

  9. I would like to be able to add any available report into a practice Report Pack. At the moment, the available reports are limited to those within the Financial Statement realm.

    I would like to produce a report pack that had all the reports i need for my annual working papers:
    - Employee wage summary
    - Bank Rec
    - Tax depreciation report
    - GST rec reports

    etc etc.

  10. General Ledger Exception Report

    Getting new updates and new reports is fine but can you please keep this GL Exception report (old version) or else make arrangements to create the same report in the updated versions of General Ledger Reports.

    This report is very useful and crucial for setting up work papers.

    Hey community, thanks for your interest in this idea, and for sharing your feedback on the new reporting experience.

    We’ll be rolling out a new version of the General Ledger exceptions report, and you should see start to see it pop up in your reporting centre from today 🎉 

    Unlike the older exceptions report, this is a dedicated report. So you'll no longer need to navigate to the GL Summary to find it - saving you a couple of clicks!

  11. Having an Indirect Method report to be available as a standard report.

    Purpose: Using this report is easier for users’ who don't have feeds activated in their Xero org.

  12. When running employee leave transaction reports, it would be good for this report to also include employee unpaid leave, as presently this option is not available. The only way to run an unpaid leave report is to run a leave request report, export and edit as required. We have to submit reports to the ADMS for our apprentice claims, and a report including all leave is required.

  13. Ability to be able to create your own custom project report in Projects. For example being able to create a report using the fields in both the Project Details report and the Project Financials report.

    Also the ability to ability to amend the current reports in the format you want and then to save them to customs reports as you can do with other reporting.

    Something that would be very helpful as an accountant, is the ability to run a report for a given date which shows all the transactions where the VAT was claimed/paid on a later return. I know that the VAT reconciliation report doesn't work with MTD.

    For those that aren't already across, though manual at present you could run the Account Transactions report to manually reconcile against your filed VAT returns.

    We appreciate the process could be more automated. Though this isn't something we have immediate change planned around atm, we'll update you here if there's any news.

  19. Although you can save a custom Account Transactions report as the new default report, Xero still displays the original default Account Transactions columns if you drill down to account activity from Balance Sheet or Income Statement.
    This currently requires re-adjusting the column settings every time.

    Appreciate the detail, and thanks for raising this here in the forums. 

    While this isn't something we have direct plans for atm, we're keeping an active eye on the idea here and will share if there's any change. 

  20. Having the option to include a digital signature in the report templates, the ability to paste an image into the text section would suffice for this. Useful for the statement of disclaimer where the firm needs to sign off every report. Currently the only way to do this is by exporting the report to a PDF manager and pasting the signature in.
